halifax clarity card

If it was DCC it wouldn't show the rate anyway - as Halifax would just see the GBP amount. But if they no longer show the rate when charged in foreign currency that's crackers if true!It was a paper statement that I got today, I had been waiting for it because the rate does not show online but it seems it does not show on paper ones also.
But anyway Halifax should be able to tell you whether the card was charged in GBP or EUR - and as you say it couldn't have been EUR since the rate hasn't been as low as 1.13 all year. So the car hire company must have charged you in GBP. If you didn't authorise them to charge you in GBP then it's an unauthorised transaction and Halifax should refund you (or at least the difference) and chargeback the car hire company.0 -

Yes its crackers if true but if my transaction Was DCC then I only have the agents word that they no longer show as you say Halifax would only see a GBP rate.
they were not able to tell me if the card was charged in euro or pound.
I have raised a complaint with them as I thought they had charged the wrong rate but if as you say I have been charged as DCC then it will come out and I can pursue that with them0 -
Maybe try copying into www.freetranslation.com to get the gist of what it says?however there are some paragraphs on the receipt in spanish only0 -

One of the "benefits" of when they moved over from the Halifax to the Lloyds CC system a few months ago was that you could no longer have both paper and online statements but had to choose one or the other.
I am wondering if the change the OP is seeing is due to the "improved" Lloyds CC system.0 -
Which hire car company was it?Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0

Just request Halifax chargeback the transaction as you never authorised DCC .
The reason code is 76 if memory serves. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hello to all, I have a similar situation, I used my Sterling Clarity card to book a hotel in the euro zone, it was for a wedding and so I needed to book over the phone as opposed to online, the hotel never asked in which currency would I want to pay, simply informed me the room would be 130EURO, however they appear on the emailed invoice to have converted this to sterling for the charge.
Can I get the hotel to change this or is it too late to do anything about it?0 -
As you may know there are quite a few filthy Spanish immigrants around the UK... If you copy it I can translate it.I think it looks like it may be down to the car hire firm and at least that is better than it being a poor rate from Mastercard. I like you have used the card in many parts of the USA and got good rates and have a 3 week trip soon. I still find it disappointing that Halifax have changed their statements format. I have checked my agreement with the hire firm and nowhere does it say they will do the conversion however there are some paragraphs on the receipt in spanish only but the sum is only quoted in Euro.0
