And if you have a Three phone already, take it into a store and they will unlock it for you:

Good for them - now, if they would only bring their call centre back to the UK....

I will say that compared to most foreign call centres, they are actually very good. Reasonably easy to understand, have a sense of humour and actually do what they promise!

I used Three about 6 years ago for an internet dongle and had such bad service I vowed never to use them again. It took a lot of persuasion from 2 friends who kept singing Three's praises for me to try them again last year when T-Mobile became virtually unusable.

I have been nothing but impressed with Three, both the service centre and the actual phone and data service which has been faultless.

Being an old cynic I'm sure it will change and go downhill as seems the case with many companies these days, but at the moment I am a happy chappy with Three.

Slightly delayed tweet by Three there, they have been selling unlocked phones (and unlocking for free) since at least mid March.

Every phone i have ever had from vodafone has been unlocked (apart from my iphone). They even publish the details to unlock the bootloaders on some of their android phones to allow you to install custom roms and kernals.

My S4 on contract was unlocked for free after submitting the request online and was done very quickly.

I never understood the point of locking points. Clearly I'm in a contract with them and have to pay £xx per month even if I put a different network's sim.
