Did a bit more digging on the website. The hotel is obviously only sold out for First Choice and other holiday companies as there seems to be rooms available to book direct. I'd have to book it for one person and then book separate flights with a different airline for 2 to get them at a reasonable price, plus transfers aswell, and would work out just over £700 to do this. Might be a bit better than losing a 4 figure sum......

Exactly what I was just about to post. I couldn't see a hotel being fully booked in June.

Where is it flying to/from? Can't you book just the one flight. 15yo's are allowed to travel alone and as you'll be at the airport either end it's only the actual flight he'll be alone for. Do Easyjet/Ryanair/Monarch fly the same route?

It's Manchester we're going from so various airline options there. Jet2 works out best for being close to times and at a reasonable price.
Because of what he's been through recently we wouldn't want him flying alone (we weren't aware of the situation until we got the police phone call as we live in a different area and we don't actually know how they managed to find us as apparently there's nothing in the house with our names on and they hadn't found the boy at the time either, they have ways and means though) so accompanied is a must for us.
I have given this option to my husband and told him ultimately it's his decision, Ive done the leg work with some help from MSE peeps which I thank you all greatly for. You've been a great help getting other ideas into my muddled brain tonight!

Don't mean to sound bad but are 15 year olds not doing important school work in June in England.
If not I would be trying to subsidise a 16 year old friend to go with him.
You might get some help with costs then.

exams finish here by 20th of June this year I think, the child in the OPs situation may already be done with all their exams long before then?

I think £700 is pretty reasonable for an adults holiday (if for 2 weeks??) . I would still try to contact the hotel direct in case they will allow him in your room for an extra cost or do you some sort of deal though.

If he's 15 it won't be exams, it will still be the curriculum he's missing, and I doubt her 12yo will be done with the school year either ;)

But that's a whole different thread, if the school have authorised the holidays, well, they can't be too worried about what OP's childen will be missing. Some might think she's lucky to have such a lacks school.

His exams are finished tomorrow but he is still on study leave as the new school year doesn't start for him until we get back from our holidays. We wouldn't even dream of taking the 12 year old out of school under normal circumstances but since we had the October holiday booked for school holidays, and then having to change it, and neither myself or my husband can get off in July or August during school holidays, it was initially changed to the only time we could go with no trouble from the school due to the circumstances.

Current update re First Choice saga, I called again tonight as the manager still hadn't phoned me back. It has been put on our record that she called me at 1707 today when she didn't, no missed calls, no messages, and no received calls, and my phone was beside me as I was sitting at he kitchen table while the dinner was cooking!

I asked if it is possible to remove an adult from the booking and just one adult and one child travelled. That is possible however we would lose the price for the adult (expected) and also the discounted child place so we would have to pay £191 more for just the two of us to go!!! On top of booking independently.

Does anyone know what would happen if suddenly one of us couldn't travel on the day of the flight and just didn't turn up at the airport? Would they try and charge extra then?

We're in Scotland and only flying from Manchester as the flights fit in for the holiday better.
