Portugal in October half term

Hi all,

I am thinking of a holiday in the Algarve during the October half term. Can anyone who has any experience of Portugal at this time of year let me know what the weather is like. I am worried that it might not be warm enough. Many thanks.:)

Which week is half term for you?

Where in the Uk are you?

We actually have two weeks. We would be available to fly from Saturday 18 October.

It's a bit hit and miss towards the end of October, you can be lucky enough to get some lovely days in the high 60's low 70's, equally you can get rainy days where it's little above 65. Unless you're really lucky it's definitely not a beach and pool every day time to go so make sure you choose somewhere with plenty to see and do away from the beach/hotel. And the evenings are chilly too.

We went to Albufeira in October 2012 during half term and had rain every single day for a week!! Somedays we woke up to rain and it literally didn't stop (about 3 days), and other days it rained in the morning then sunny and warm in the afternoon before raining again in the evening. When it was sunny it was lovely and we spent a lovely morning down on the beach in Saoa Joao and had a lovely afternoon wandering around Vilamoura for a few hours, but overall the weather was shocking and it would put me off returning at that time of year.

On saying that though, the week after was apparently glorious and the week before had been a mini heat wave so it seems we were just unlucky.

Thanks all. That was kind of what I was thinking. My youngest son hates flying so I was looking for a shortish flight with some nice weather. Back to the drawing board.

Agadir and Fuerteventura are a bit further south and a bit longer flight times.

You may find going on the 18th is a bit cheaper.

Consider the Lisbon coast instead. Similar weather, but at least you can find something to do in Lisbon if it is raining.

WE had a lovely holiday in Lisbon and Cassias which is just along the coast in November last year, we didn't use our coats or fleeces except the day we were flying home when it threw it down. I just had a look at some pictures to work out when we went around 16th November and one of them has a temp gauge on and it's 19 degrees C...

Do you mean Cascais? It's lovely there.

Setubal is a nice town too, there's a nice resort called Troia across a causeway there, although I don't know if you can get packages from the UK to there.

In the same bay there is a nature reserve and Sesimbra which is also a lovely place to visit.

There's an awful lot more to see and do along that coast than the Algarve out of season.

I spent october 2011 half term in Albufeira & had beautiful sunbathing weather all week except on the last night (overnight) there was a huge storm which knocked the power out & the roof off the airport! but as the op said october 2012 wasn't nice at all so if you want guaranteed sunshine i would look into going further afield :)
