But selling loans to people that need loans is what lenders do! They're not going to go around small villages full of wealthy residents as they wouldn't ever sell any loans!

It's obviously better for a lender to try and sell a loan to a council tenant as they're more likely to need it!

i was a private tenant at the time orginally, please dont tar all council tenants with the same brush. not all council tenants are up to their eyeballs in debt and on benefits either before anyone states that.

marleyb - why are council tenants less likely to pay for a debt?

thats another thread altogether though worthy of discussion time.

I agree with anthillmob. Why do people think that council/private rent tenants are going to be more in need of loans and less able to pay that people who own their own homes. You couldnt be more wrong. I would never give someone a loan if they lived in a lovely new house and earned plenty of money. Those are usually the ones in my experience who do muck us about and dont pay. We have two kinds of customers those who wont pay and those who cant. Sometimes people do have to reduce their payments for a short while and that is fine but then those who have money and all the mod cons think they just dont need to bother paying anything and end up costing me money trying to collect them out. I wont touch them, give me someone with less luxuries and money any day over someone who appears to be better off.

If council tenants aren't short of cash I feel pretty hard done to that I am paying for people to be living comfortably when I have to keep to a tight budget to keep food in our fridge!

You're right though; a case for a whole other thread.

sorry  youre only paying towards the upkeep of people on benefit not paying to keep people in council houses. dont be so rediculous!

No, don't think so... Where does the money to fund council houses come from then, if it isn't the tax payer?
