Paper tax disc, no longer required to be displayed

So from the 1st October can I remove the tax disc from my windscreen?

From 1 October 2014, the paper tax disc, first issued on 1 January 1921, will no longer be issued and required to be displayed on a vehicle windscreen. Vehicle tax will still need to be paid but with DVLA having a digital record of who has and has not paid, a paper tax disc is no longer necessary as proof that vehicle tax is paid.

And a thousand eBay sellers will cry into their stockpile of crappy "I've paid my road tax now go fix the potholes" tax disk holders.

Quite looking forward to it actually, I do like a nice clear windscreen :)

I feel slightly sorry for my DH, I stole his Stoke City tax disk holder a while ago and finally gave it back to him when I sold my old car last week. Haven't got the heart to tell him it will be redundant in a few months :D

Funny as it sounds, my current car came with a Stoke City tax disc and I removed it. I'm a season ticket holder, but I drive to Wilmslow everyday. The place is full of Man City fans and Man Utd fans and I regularly take trips to Burslem (unfortunately) which is full of those types :P .

I just decided it was an accident waiting to happen and replaced it with a generic Volkswagen one.

Still, will be glad to get rid of it.

He had a similar issue driving to Coventry daily, thats why I nicked it. He's back working locally now so reasoned it would be reasonably safe to have it back.
    I never go to Burslem...;):D

The more I avoid it, the better. I reckon one trip takes about 10 years off my life. An hour in the pub with those bitter miserable !!!!!!!s is enough to make me contemplate suicide.

I am suprised Burslem's pubs are full of city and united fans. Are you sure you haven't misinterpreted?

The entire tax disc holder industry destroyed at a stroke. :)

And, we all know that the DVLA keep accurate records. What can possibly go wrong?

The online record for my car has a wrong entry, that I'm trying to get them to correct before my insurance company notices the discrepancy.

If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

I think that there should be something on the screen to show that the car is road legal.

How is a booby on the beat or a pcso/ceo going to detect parked cars that are uninsured/untaxed?
