Would you like to have a large garden in your next property?
Do you value the space, privacy, more pleasant view that a large garden provides?
Assuming the house, price and location suits you, would you opt for the property with small labour-saving garden, or the property with a lawn that might need a "sit-apon mower"??
Do you prefer to sit in the sun in a tiny outdoor space or do you fancy growing a few veg and maybe having a few chooks?
My heart says the large garden but my realistic "lazy" head is trying to over-rule it!
What would you do?

I have a small garden currently. We bought aged 21 with no interest in gardening and have been very happy with it... Until now. We're hoping to sell this year and one of my desired for the next house is a large garden. Somewhere for my girls to play freely and somewhere I can grow some fruit and vegetables. At nearly 30 my garden requirements have completely changed!!
I personally would go for the large garden0 -
Bigger the better.I am a LandLord,(under review) so there!:p0

Large garden. Absolutely no question.
I once lived in my Grandad's house after he died. It was on 1 acre of land and it was just the best thing ever.
I think it needs to be emphasised that just because you have an enormous garden, doesnt mean you have to manicure the whole bloody thing. We looked after probably one quarter of an acre, if we'd lived there for longer, another quarter would have been an allotment and badminton court. The other half was an orchard and small patch of woodland down the end by the railway tracks.
If I had the opportunity to have 20 acres I'd take it in a heartbeat!Mortgage debt - [STRIKE]£8,811.47 [/STRIKE] Paid off!0 -

I am not you. It is you who have to decide between these options.0 -
Large, without a doubt, our first house had a large garden and it was a nightmare to keep on top of, when we moved and bought a new house I was happy for a small garden that was easier to maintain, what I didn't like was the fact I felt we had no private outdoor space as being a new house it was overlooked, felt cramped and I regretted the move dearly.
So we moved again and this time I wanted my large garden back, now we have a good sized garden with a small orchard at the end through a gate where my chickens roam freely, it's fantastic, plenty of room for a bit of outdoor freedom and privacy and it's easy enough to keep on top of.Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -
Why on earth does it matter what I would do (or anyone else?).

Well yes, of course I will have to make the decision bu tI've been mulling it over for ages and finding it difficult.
I've moved about 7 times and each time given into the temptation and got a larger garden. I'm under no illusion as to how much work a large garden is, though. Especially if it is a cottagey rather than park-like garden.
It might be time to buy a bit smaller plot and spend more time sitting in the sun rather than weeding, strimming, mowing, harvesting (then freezing/cooking the produce) etc.
I guess available time is a big consideration. If one works 60 hour weeks in a tiring job, the weekends sometimes needed for some rest!
Other folk's comments about the pro's and cons are of interest and shed more light (shed....hmmmmm that is another thought....what man does want enough space in the garden for a nice man-shed???:A Goddess :A0 -
Live next to a large park then you don't need a garden. Plus someone else cuts the grass etc.0

I'm less interested in a large garden now I've retired.0

Part of me says that the more land the better but I have a large garden and I'm struggling to keep on top of it. When I next move, I won't want a 100' garden, I'll be wanting a south facing patio garden."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Enough room for a barbecue, a table and chairs and a washing line is enough for me.0
