Cancellation of Vodafone

I am going to cancel my Vodafone account. THe expiry date of the latest of my one year deals (I always phone up and negotiate) is August 27th.

I want to get one of the offers on online sites such as Carphone Warehouse or Onestopphoneshop to benefit from half price line rental or good deals. I want to keep my number, so how do I do it? Vodafone always refuse to match these.

If I ask for my PAC on July 25th and sign up to Orange or O2 the same day, does this count as giving my month's notice to Vodafone? Basically, I dont want to give them a month's notice that I am going since I want to keep my number. So whats the best way to do it?

What happens is...you can request a pac code free of charge from the day your contract expires (not a month before as you'll be charged an early termination fee as it could leave the network in 7 days).
When the number ports to your new network, your contract with Vodafone will cancel and terminated from then.

Best way to do it is wait till your contract has officially ended, get your pac code that day, sign up for your new network the same day and give them pac. Then it will have 7 days of you paying two lots of line rental to both voda and new network but then cancels.

So the PAC being used automatically cancels the contract? Asking for a PAC is basically the same as giving 30 days notice provided it is used?
