Technically, yes, but many couples, who just want it over, have been known to tell porkies as to how long they have been apart.

You don't have to be legally separated just need to state that you have been apart.

(Unless it has changed in the last 10 years).

    Lin :)

Well we "Split" about 20 months ago and he left the house about 18 months ago. Will need to try and get in touch with him soon to get a contact address to send the documents to, just really want it over and done with now.

When my ex and I got divorced it was a DIY job. We'd been separated 2 years and he phoned me up (I was down South at the time) and suggested we got divorced because the 2 years were up. I told him, you pay for it and bob's yer uncle! So he sent the papers, I signed them and sent them back, job done! :D

I think he said it cost him 60 quid, mind, this was 20 years ago now! We didn't have kids to sort out (they were grown up) and everything else was sorted between us, but the split was amicable, so I suppose that makes a big difference.

Well it wasn't very amicable in the end, but no kids to sort we never had any joint finances and we split everything when he left and agreed to divorce as soon as possible. I don't mind paying the Fee, its worth it just to have it all over and done with.

So much happier on my own
