My brother is taking barclays to court for £4500. He is due in court on the 24th July. Today he received a letter stating that they were closing his account on the 20th July and that he would have to pay his £3000 overdraft by then. Is this legal? Do they have to give you a certain number of days befor they close the account?

The department that is trying to close the account is probably un aware that you are taking them to court over it, so ring them. Also, if the can't see the light, warn them that it will cost them a further £200 in compensation when you complain to the Financial Ombudsman
