Hi guys,
I applied for a Santander card last night on-line but it never gave me a decision at the final screen.
I got a ref number and that was it.
Is this the norm?

It can be - a lot will depend on your income/debts if any. When I had one last year they only gave me a C/L of £2.5k & I was pre approved. I'd had a high one with Barclaycard before which was coming to an end of it's 0% period & was stoozing my debt to another card, so I had to then get another to sort the balance out. But then I have a good credit record ATM.0

At weekends, late at night, and on bank holidays; it's more than likely that they couldn't contact the CRA, so I presume the credit check shall be done today or tomorrow?0

I applied last Thursday evening and had the same thing. To be fair it doesn't actually say anywhere that you will get an instant decision.
When I logged into online banking on Friday evening I could see the credit card and limit. They still haven't contacted me but I must be approved so I guess the first you hear is the card coming through the post.
If you bank with them I'd log in and see if a card shows up under 'my accounts'.0 -

It's all an automated process, so surely that wouldn't make a difference? If it was referred for manual review, then I understand your point.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.
ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.0 -

It's automated, but some automated systems still don't work out of hours and sometimes they're down of maintenance late night or over weekends, etc.0 -

I applied for a Santander card a couple of years ago and had the same experience. I rang them to ask and it was because it had been referred for a decision - if things are still the same then I agree that they don't make that clear on the website.0 -
I had the same thing last week, got my card in the mail the other day without any further communication from them. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

I wanted to know as you already bank with sanatander like i do, who did they do the external agency credit search with or is it based on internal accounts performance?
Kind regards
