MyWaitrose free hot drink? Don't forget ID...

Don't forget to take your photographic ID to Waitrose now if you'd like to claim your free hot drink!
I was ID'd when claiming my complimentary Cappuccino this morning. I was told to prove that I was over 18 and eligible for a MyWaitrose card.
I questioned why the bloke in front of me (on his own) was able to claim two hot drinks using two separate cards (and wasn't ID'd), and why everyone who used a credit/debit card wasn't ID'd to ensure it was theirs/they were eligible for it, but was referred to Head Office.
Thanks to the member of staff for being very apologetic about the whole situation, though (when I started questioning the policy!).

The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Maybe the member of staff was indirectly complimenting you on your youthful looks0 -
Well, I wonder for how long we'll be getting freebies given the latest attempts to link a fall in profilts with the freebies:

Waitrose have a marketing strategy which is aimed fairly and squarely at the middle classes. The discounters will never affect them because the majority of Waitrose's target market will never consider shopping somewhere inhabited by the lower orders even if it means a substantially more expensive shopping bill.
I do find it rather ironic that the John Lewis group is essentially run by a workers cooperative though.0 -

I think you are wrong there, I use both Waitrose and Lidl (about 50 yds apart). I buy what I consider to be best value - not the cheapest.I do find it rather ironic that the John Lewis group is essentially run by a workers cooperative though.
So true ! I have long thought that this was one of the best "own goals" by left wing politicians. Waitrose is one of the most perfect of Socialist ideals come true - but left wingers condemn it as a "toffs" area. Hypocrisy come true !!!!!!!0 -

There's quite a difference between the ownership model of a business, and the product or service that business provides. An owners co-operative could make land mines, it doesn't suddenly make them acceptable.
That said, I've never once heard a left-wing politician condemn Waitrose anyway, so I suspect this is something of a straw man argument.0 -
I.D. for a coffee - you couldn't make it up!
Thanks for giving me a giggle.

Unless you want to start a class war...
Just look through geerex's other posts - then place on ignore. They are a nasty little troll who seems to hate everyone.0 -

Unfortunately, I've heard similar things said my people standing the coffee queue at Waitrose/JL, Oxford Street.Free thinker.:cool:0 -
Do you know, I've only once claimed my free coffee, that was when my husband went and got it for me and insisted I walk around drinking it. I disliked the experience, it slowed me down and felt an inconvenience. When I leave I drive, so coffee is similarly not wanted.
Some things free aren't worth it.0
