hi
we need to now put up a stair gate as little one is getting more mobile every day! at the top of the stair due to banister position we need to install it on the first step.
there is also a turn on the stair close to the top. hence i am trying to find a stair gate which is truly one handed operation.any recommendations?
not looking at pressure fit ones as these will cause trip hazard.

Argos do quite a few that advertise one hand opening. I have a Mama & Papas one I bought from them a few years ago, though I'm not sure if they still stock it. You pull back a spring-loaded tab in the handle and lift the gate slightly, very easy to do with one hand (my dog learnt how to open it too!)0

We have the tippitoes stair gates which you open with one hand, and are self closing.
You also need quite big hands to open them, so my 3.5 year old still can't manage it!

Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

This is pressure fit though, op doesn't want that.0 -
We have this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/BabyDan-Trip-Metal-Safety-White/dp/B007XTDHW4
Push down with your thumb as you pull the gate up with the same hand. It's definitely one-handed, and I've even managed to do it by pushing down with my elbow and lifting the gate up with my foot when I had my hands full. Best part - my 2 1/2 year old still hasn't managed to open it by herself
We also have one with a fastening like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lindam-Extending-Wooden-Stair-Gate/dp/B000KGAHMA/ref=sr_1_23?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1401133626&sr=1-23&keywords=lindam+baby+gate
I find it more awkward than the first, but its still one handed, and YMMV.Mortgage when started: £330,995

I have these and they are fab.0 -
We got a mothercare one which is one-handed. It's great but can be a bit noisy now it's a few years old.0

I had no issue opening the Lindam ones with one hand0

Thanks all. Looks like I have a few choices.0

We got this one to keep the pooch in the lounge

We chose it as we wanted a wooden style one rather than plastic. Does the job well, easy to use one handed and juuuust small enough to climb over if I have both hands full (though probably not recommended if you are using yours on the stairs!)0
