If you want to protect specific individual plants, I make a copper ring by putting copper tape (from the pound shops) round a cut off section of a plastic milk carton. Does the trick for my hostas and dahlias.
Wouldn't work if you have lots to protect though - way too much faffing around.
The garlic one is new to me - might give that a go as well.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I use my hair- save it from each haircut, and ive found it more effective than egg shells etc. I put a small handful round each plant in my allotment

im big into recycling and not killing so it's perfect for me!

Garden shops now sell non-toxic slug repellent. I have not tried it, but from the picture on the packet that I saw in the shop, it appears to be a sand-like material that pile up in a circle around each plant. Anyone try it?

I have used non-toxic, white, salt-based granules. Can't remember the name. Safe for pets, wildlife etc. they were very effective.

I have found copper also effective. I've stood pots on old copper plates and bowls picked up from charity shops. Works brilliantly.

None of those methods will work with that amount of rain weve just had.
Organic pellets still kill the slugs (if they work)

I have read that human hair also keeps deer away I don't know if it works, have you seen any deer around your garden, if not then maybe it does work?;)

In the past slugs and snails have eaten through the flowering stems of my irises, this year I tried putting used coffee grounds round them and it seems to be working!

Do you think that used loose tea leaves would work too? You'd think so.
