Winston Churchill was not dumb, many rather nasty despots were not dumb. There is no direct correlation.0 -

there was an interesting post by some-one that used USA as an example of country benefitting from immigration
the brief facts were:-
immigrants arrived and
-cheated, defrauded the locals
-then basically committed genocide on the original inhabitants
-destroyed much of the flora and fauna
-introduced one of the largest slave economies in modern times
-had a civil war that killed millions
-once slavery had been abolished they became probably the most racially divided society in the world
-even today the US id still probably the most racially divided 'western country'
would that original poster be an example of some-one too dumb too realise they were racist?0 -
Bit like Generali going on about how wonderfully multicultural Australia is. I think some of the earlier (pre European) inhabitants may have reservations.0

Furthermore many of us do not want ever more roads, congestion, building and intensive farming. Sure there are plenty of fields but already far too much impact from mankind with roads criss crossing the land. GDP at all costs is not for me and we can perfectly well manage with the population size we now have, it just takes a bit of imaginative policy on pension planning.
If we all had that attitude mankind still be living in caves.0 -

All that is terrible.
However, I'm not understanding your point. Are you arguing that the USA's economy today would be better with a population of 3 million than a population of 343 million?
If the British hadn't colonized the US do you think the native Indians would have had to have had an immigration policy eventually?0 -

However, I have no idea why you would think an economy today is better with a population of 3 million than a population of 343 million though.
Did you miss the point?
I think the point was that for the original population, things became infinitely worse. Most of them were murdered or treated as slaves.0 -

Most of the ones that died - died from coming into contact with Western diseases. That is a tragedy. It's not an argument against immigration in today's USA.
By the way Native Americans struggle with this even today0 -
