so you are equating 'race' with 'nationality' or/and 'citizenship'

I'm not equating it, that's what the word means. Just because the most recent grouping that worked its way into the definition of the word race was genetic/taxonomic doesn't mean all the other groupings that race can and does refer to stopped being applicable. If you're going to talk about the misuse of language then you should at least have the facts to hand.

And even if the other definitions were somehow stripped away, the cognitive process is the same if, say, one were English and to pick on the French for being French. It's no less abhorrent or worthy of derision just because there isn't a taxonomical distinction.
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.

So said Melthus in 1798 - how wrong was he?
His prediction was that if populations were left to rise unchecked this would lead to an increase in hunger, disease and war.

When Melthus wrote this, the World population was around 1 billion. Today around 1 billion in the World are suffering from hunger and malnutrition (of whom around 7.5 million actually die each year).

In the 20 century alone, 160 million people died in wars and over 1.7 billion from infectious diseases.

I would say that he was probably spot on.

Of course, he failed to accurately predict all the other problems with unchecked population growth, such as global warming. But then, nobody is perfect.

...Except that the global population is bigger, better nourished and more prosperous than ever before. Thus the Malthusian prediction that more population = more hunger simply isn't true. SIMPLY ISN'T TRUE.

You clearly live in a different world than me (or have a very blinkered view by living in the affluent west)

I don't know what world you live in.

    This was yesterdays news
British girls are the fattest in Europe: Almost a third of females under the age of 20 in UK are overweight or obese, claims study
Treating obseity has cost the UK NHS £4.2 billion. The indirect cost to the economy has been calculated at £15.8 billion.

Don't you think it's a shame that people don't spend as much time worrying about that as they do about immigrants?

It must be very reassuring to the 1 billion people on the planet suffering from hunger and malnutrition, that thanks to previous wars and the unfair distribution of resources that some people in the west are able to have so much food that they become obese. Why do you think we are faced with so many economic migrants trying to get into the UK?

I'm not the one trying to stop them getting to the food which we clearly have more than enough off, so I sleep peacefully at night. How about you?

Immigration is not the real issue - it is re-distribution of resources. The average world salary per head is around £6000. When we manage to spread that evenly across the planet we can all sleep peacefully.

It's a far simpler conundrum to keep migrants out of the UK than to manage food rationing in the UK so that everyone can be fed.

I would willingly place my bets on the status quo remaining the same; plenty of available food (if you can afford it), comfortable lifestyle, good jobs etc.

Just because food is available it doesn't mean everyone want to overeat. But, I take pleasure in knowing I can be fed to the degree I wish. That in itself seals the status quo for me.

Certainly, I have no regard or interest for other starving nations fleeing insecure dictatorships; I am born here, and thus it what's here that matters to me, and greatly thankful I am for the UK's privilege as an island nation.
