Faulty Camera. Want a refund but they say RMA only.

No you don't, it was a camera used for commercial purposes by a production company, consumer rights do not apply.
In case you haven't been paying attention, they have the right to repair it anyway, even in the off chance that you could be classed as consumer so it's all really a mute point. A refund was never on the table consumer or not.
That said OP, the seller is right to check that the camera is indeed faulty before issuing a remedy so it'll be best to follow the RMA process. If it can't be repaired (or if there's no fix available) then the alternative remedies will be a replacement or refund. The fact that you have a feature booked at the end of July is of no consequence as that would be a business enterprise and will have no bearing on a consumer remedy.0 -
Here is the list of events:
- Mr.X per-orders 6 months ago as a consumer / hobbyist
- Mr.X and others meet 4 months ago and decide to make a film
- Mr.X receives camera 2 months ago
- The camera is faulty.
While the camera isn't mine I'm trying to help the person who bought it as they aren't technically savvy with cameras or speaking to companies formally.
Sorry if this is all a bit confusing!
I think you're clutching at straws to try and claim under consumer laws when in reality you, or your "friend", made a b2b purchase with the intention of using the camera as part of your production company.0 -
It would help if you told us where you bought it from, obviously not Currys. You'll stand even less chance of proving it was a consumer purchase (which it wasn't) if you bought it from a business supplier.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

There is one line in the opening post that certainly implies that the camera was a business purchase.I work for a production company and bought a new cinema camera to shoot a feature film on
in which case you will have to rely on whatever your contract with the seller states and not with any return right under the SOGA.0 -
Black Magic 4k? Native max ISO is about 400, so can you compensate with faster lenses/more light and tone it down in the grade?0

Managed to return the camera and received another model and full refund of the extra cash.
I just put a message on their Facebook and contacted their customer service rep with some legal jargon.0
