Does anyone feed Canagan dog food and what are your thoughts. Dolly gets very itchy and dry coated which seems to be seasonal (ie grass etc related), this year has been her worst but there are very little signs of bites etc she's just very itchy and dry coated. Had a chat with our local pet store today who recommended Canagan and explained the benefits. Has anyone tried it with success and how easy would it be to switch her from wet food to dry?

Introduce the dry slowly, so 3/4 wet 1/4 dry for several days and then half half for several days. It gives the digestive system time to adjust to the change. When your on dry solid, if she refuses to eat it leave of down and refuse to give her anything else ( could take a few days). I know it's difficult and you feel crule but if you give in you risk creating a picky dogs, plus of she is really hungry she, all eat it.

Canagan is a good food with high meat content. But the matter of fact is, its produced by symply to gain more money. Symply dog food is more than adequate for your animals.

More than adequate it may be but in a like for like comparison Canagan comes out better than Symply.

    Lets compare...
    Canagan Ingredients
Freshly Prepared Chicken (26%),Dried Chicken (25%), Sweet Potato, Peas, Potato, Pea Protein, Alfalfa, Chicken Fat (3.1%), Egg (3.1%), Chicken Gravy (1.6%),Salmon Oil (1.2%), Minerals, Vitamins, Glucosamine (1000 Mg/kg),MSM (1000 Mg/kg), Apple, Carrot, Spinach, Psyllium, Seaweed, Fructooligosaccharides, Chondroitin (700 Mg/kg), Camomile, Peppermint, Marigold,Cranberry, Aniseed & Fenugreek.

    Symply Ingredients
Dried Turkey (min. 26%), White Rice (min. 26%), Brown Rice, Oats, Sunflower Oil, Beet Pulp, Turkey, Digest, Minerals, Egg, Seaweed.

Now I'm not disputing Symply is a good food, but obviously Canagan is going to be more expensive because it has a hell of a lot more ingredients!

There is a full analysis/comparison here for anyone interested:
    http://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/compare-dog-foods/0123-0666/canagan-vs-symply

Canagan scores 4.6 on the expert rating of that site, Symply scores 3.4

Symply also has a lower meat content than Canagan as you pointed out in your post (under 30%) so again I cannot fathom then how you can possibly think it's only produced to gain more money, obviously it will be more expensive, it has higher meat content! Symply also contains cereals whereas Canagan is grain free.

As I say, Symply is a decent food, but Canagan is even better.

How about Gentle dog food? I can't post links but you can google it. My son's dog had very itchy skin which cleared up within days once he started on Gentle. I've also just got a new GSD puppy and she's being fed on Gentle mixed with raw and is thriving on it. It's relatively new to the market but is getting very good reviews. My local pet store stocks it and they only stock the best foods, no supermarket rubbish or the likes of Royal Canin, Hills, Eukanuba, Iams etc.

It's about £25 for 5kg or £55 for 15kg. Daily amount is 2.5% bodyweight if that helps you calculate cost.

Thanks again for all your advice, Dolly's coat is still looking a lot better although she has started scratching a little in the last couple of days and on inspection I found a nasty bite/scab in the middle of her under belly but in comparison to past attacks had this have happened a few months ago she would've gnawed herself red raw so the Vets Kitchen lotion definitely seems to be helping. I also noticed Yumega do a similar thing so I may look at that as our local Tesco have stopped selling Vets Kitchen supplements.
