Canagan Dog Food

Does anyone feed Canagan dog food and what are your thoughts. Dolly gets very itchy and dry coated which seems to be seasonal (ie grass etc related), this year has been her worst but there are very little signs of bites etc she's just very itchy and dry coated. Had a chat with our local pet store today who recommended Canagan and explained the benefits. Has anyone tried it with success and how easy would it be to switch her from wet food to dry?

Excellent food but very, very expensive...around £70 per 12kg if I remember correctly.
There are similar, grain free, but cheaper alternatives if you look for themAlways try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
Maisie's having her worst year for itching too
Canagan is an excellent food but I'm afraid I really don't see how it's going to help if her allergies are environmental?Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250

I suppose it depends on if the allergies (or whatever causes the itching) are exacerbated by reactions to food?
I dunno & it would probably take a very expensive set of tests to find out... trying different foods is cheaper & may be the answer, worth a go IMO... it certainly can't do any harm.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
The OP stated the allergies are seasonal so, if she's on the same food year round and it's only at certain times (ie if the grass or whatever external factor causes the problem) then switching foods will have little / no effect
I'd be reluctant to change food unless I knew that there was nothing in the new food that she might be intolerant to or the problems could actually get worse
From a very quick look there are several things (depending on which one you choose) in it that dogs can be allergic to - peas (this is fairly common), potato etcGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Sorry if I confused anyone but my reasons for wanting to switch to Canagan was for the dryness of the coat and to give her coat more condition etc.A home is not a home ..... without a dog0

What about coconut oil?
It's solid and my boys love it. Taste nice to they eat it.
You could try her with that. It's great for the coat.
I don't feed dry but when I did I found Arden grange to always give them a great soft coat. Can't recall what they put in it though. But they do grain free too.Sigless0 -

Oh no!
My girl eats it off the spoon tooand I have found it very handy she also has a "joint powder" supplement so I just mix it into a paste with the coconut oil and she licks it off my fingers! :rotfl:
You will have to eat it yourself or use as a moisturiser etc!"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's"
