Sick of all the problems with sky so looking for alternative, not bothered about the tv just need good broadband. Don't really use the landline but guessing I will need that for the broadband. Use the broadband mostly at weekends for surfing the net, watching youtube videos (don't watch films/tv on it)

Since broadband is exchange-specific, start with an exchange search on samknows.com for your available LLU options. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Problems ie internet dropping out, running so slow (5mbps) that it can't find websites etc, Sky advise to turn other things off like mobiles connected to wifi - not much use when I need to work from home and need to have my work phone one. Last 2 weekends have been horrendous have pretty much been unable to do anything on the internet.A home is not a home ..... without a dog

Backup connection.
When one fails, use the other one.
Cheapest option is to have an arrangement with a neighbour.
You use theirs when yours fail, and vice versa.
Ideally, you want to use different paths, so one should be phone line, the other cable (or satellite). I try to switch providers to get introductory deals. So I had BT and Virgin up to last year, and it's BT and Plusnet now. When Virgin has a good deal next, I will probably cancel the Plusnet.0 -
Post your router stats; if it's a line issue then switching ISP's will make no difference whatsoever. No free lunch, and no free laptop

If you live in a cabled area then Virgin Media is the way to go. It's doesn't use a telephone line so you do not need to sign up to phone package, it also doesn't have the issues associated with the line quality.
I have Virgin and a member of Samknows and my stats are awesome. On a 60meg service it has dropped once in the last six months to around 55meg. Can't grumble at that.0
