When does a sim-only contract start?

Does anyone know when a Virgin sim-only contract actually starts? I only found a VM Support forum post where one poster said it was at activation, but another said it was as soon as it was ordered.

I am hoping to move from Orange to Virgin at the end of next month and want to minimise the overlap between the contracts. I need to order my PAC in a day or two, but wanted guidance for when to order the new sim.

Thanks

Don't take my word for it, but most likely it's when it's ordered or dispatched. Otherwise the contract wouldn't start if you fail to activate the sim.

While yours may be different, when I went down the SIM only contract route with Three the SIM was active before I received it...

They told me the number ahead of it arriving, when I called that number it went to voice mail... So the contract actually started before I could use the SIM.

Thanks for both replies. Makes sense from a business point of view. Think i'll just apply with a fortnight to go.
