I brought the subject up but got no reason. I haven't pushed it because we aren't in a position to make an offer yet. Maybe soon though so will definitely find out before we do.

Interesting. People usually know the reason why they are selling their house.

My house is like this. We have a 2 car "driveway" at the end of the garden, and the house fronts on to a communal space. We use the back door if we're going out in the car. I get a fair number of deliveries etc. coming to the back door, but the longer the houses are here the better people are getting at finding the front door! The setup doesn't bother me in the slightest.

For me, very. I want to be able to park directly outside my house or on the drive.

Is it so your takeaway doesn't get cold?

Surely you just put on the road at home... They just want to know the rough part of the country. The fact that it's on Tulip Avenue one night and Rosy Road the next is neither here nor there...

It comes down to price/availability - and the house you're buying would cost more if it had the parking you want ..... and/or any identical houses like that, with the 'correct' parking, aren't available.

So, you're having to choose what's available at the price you can afford - and therefore make compromises.

I'm buying a house that has peculiar access etc, with rear parking .... and it's definitely NOT what was on my wishlist at all .... but, to get a house that was acceptably close to a preferred location I had to compromise on loads of stuff .... and this house was available when I was looking at a price I could afford.

And that's how people buy houses...... increasingly, newer houses will be built with less desirable parking/accesses and soon yours will be even more attractive :)

A lot of the houses down my way are like that. Its slightly annoying because they all want to park outside my house because I have a road. But I paid for a road and they didn't.

I am planning on putting cones out while I get a driveway application in to the council.

If you are too cheap to pay for a road you shouldnt expect a road. I look down on them a bit to be honest.

Unless this is a private road, listed on your deeds and maintained by you, you have no more right to use it than anyone else. Some of our new neighbours have lots of visitors some of whom park in my regular place, outside my house, but I have no more rights than they have.

This design was a favourite of our LA, for the previous building phases, but they seem to be going back to 'traditional layouts.

An advantage could be that having fronts facing over a green provides a similar environment to the old terraced streets where people lived closer, so were more neighbourly. But do 'modern' people want that.

It would be fine to use the back entrance for car journeys and goods delivery. However, if the gate needs to be locked because of pets' or small children's safety, then this is not possible.

    has to be a wind-up!?

No one pays for their bit of a public road.

I used to have great fun hiding cones from some of our neighbours who tried this in our previous street... :rotfl:

It would annoy me to use the back door of the house as the main entrance so it would be a deal breaker for me.
