Moving home (ditching TalkTalk)

Hi all
I am moving home very soon so need to cancel my TalkTalk contract. It is at the end of its contract period so i should incur no charges. However after ringing to tell them I am moving house so wish to cancel the contract they have given me a changing of ownership letter and said I should get the landlord to get the new tenant to fill it out.
Now I have had an awful lot of problems with TT so I want to make absolutely certain I am free.
+ Is this a proper cancellation of the contract?
+ Will I be connected in anyway to the next tenant? (e.g. credit files/ missed payments of their TT service?)
+ Is there a way to properly cancel so the next tenant doesn't have to deal with these cowboys?
Thanks for your time!

No it isn't and you do not have to complete this 'transfer of ownership' form. It sounds like TalkTalk's sly methods of getting you/your Landlord to have the new tenants sign up as a new customer so they retain business.

No, but you will be liable for all bills until (IF) the new tenant decides to setup an account with TalkTalk, which they don't. They may go with Sky or Virgin for example.

Yes, just ring them and say you are giving your 30 days notice to cancel and that is it. You are not passing a form on to the new tenants, you simply wish to cancel all services and your account with TalkTalk at the end of your contract (or next billing period).0 -
Sparx is right. Do not do this under any circumstances. Do not listen to any of the rubbish TT tell you about this. You will still be liable and the new tenant is under no obligation to continue using TT as their provider.
Either phone and give notice (Make sure you record the conversation) or send a letter recorded delivery (and a follow up call/email if you dont get a reply).
Personally i prefer phone calls (always recorded) or emails as its much easier to prove they got the message (and the content of the message).0 -
Thanks guys this is such a dodgy company!
I have rung up and given my notice however didn't record the call as I made it before you replied MataNui.
I told them I am giving notice and moving and don't want my contract to continue etc. They said that my contract has been set to automatically end on the 9th June when my contract officially ends.
This is probably the worst customer service I have experienced in my life. I haven't met anyone that has a good word to say about TT!
Thanks again for the advice!0 -
But your contract doesn't automatically end at 9/6-your minimum term does. It then continues until you give notice. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Are they seriously trying to fob you off again? This still sounds very shady and doesn't sound like they have set your account to cancel at the end of your next billing period.
When you sign up for a service with a minimum 12 month term, your services do not automatically cease at the end of the initial contract period. They typically carry on and you usually provide 30 days notice to cancel at the end of the next billing period.
I would ring up one last time just to clarify the cancellation has been set in place.0 -
Thank you for the help yet again.
Sparx you were right they did fob me off. This time i recorded the conversation.
The line has been booked to disconnect and contract end in 7 days with a £1.80 cancellation fee. I am not fighting £1.80 as its a small price to pay to finally be rid of the worst company in the UK.0
