Professional Indemnity after bankruptcy

I was made bankrupt in 2010 and discharged 6 months later due to the recession having an unbelievable effect on my business.

I did not have 1 personal debt and have never missed a fuel bill or mortgage. I even sold off most of my belongings to pay bills before the bankruptcy and I have done everything right.

I need professional indemnity for my business, which is thriving but no-one seems to want to insure me; the insurers are even saying "yes that is so unfair - but tough"

Please can someone help me?

I am at the point where I would be far better off financially to claim benefits and do not want to go there!! But, working my butt off and being a self sufficient disabled person clearly doesn't pay!

I want to work but I cannot shake off the past

Google identifies SIS Insurance as one brokerage that might be able to help.

No idea of whether they are to be recommended however. Others may have specific knowledge.

I can't recall any insurer asking about bankruptcy in relation to PII.

What's your profession and who have you asked so far?

Just AXA? Your post said no-one seems to want to insure me.

    Try a specialist PI broker

I spoke on the phone to AXA (28 minutes it took) and it was at the last bit they refused me.

PRIOR TO THIS - I had spent a day of trying to get quotes on-line but none would even give me a quote. It was only the AXA that said I could ring to discuss, so I did. The others all said they were unable to offer a quote, because of the bankruptcy.

I am not stupid enough to exaggerate and say "No-one" if I had only tried one.

I don't think they asked specifically because of the type of insurance; it is a standard question at the end, when they check your details (and when they say that giving a false answer is against the law, etc.) when taking out almost any insurance. I cannot seem to get public liability either and although I cannot think of a situation where I would need it I do not want to presume I will be OK when I could be covered.

I got the same asking for house insurance and finally got one through my bank (Co-operative) but I got car insurance and annual holiday cover without a problem.

Try your trade association who will normally have a scheme with a broker.

Or try a proper broker who specialise in PI, the broker association BIBA have a search option on their website http://www.biba.org.uk/FindBroker/Indemnity-insurance/Professional-Indemnity/ConsumerHome.aspx?category=Indemnity&subcategory=KisxQYx3i0OGJ5elTJarDuVMQA0RXB34&pageIndex=0

Or this guy will be able to help or recommend someone who can help https://www.choiceinsuranceagency.com

Did the others ask online about bankruptcy? I have never asked anyone if they have been bankrupt.

    Who were the others?
