I have just signed up and this is what I did! :

1 - Sign up for a Top Cashback account
2 - Search for Phones4U on the Top Cashback site and click on the link. Then find the Nokia Lumia 520 on contract.
3 - Find the T-Mobile 24 month contract with 100mins/Unlimited Texts/1gb data or Orange 500mins/250mb data at £11.99 p/m with £119.90 cashback and sigh up!
4 - After about 5 weeks Top Cashback will give you £80.80
5 - You can claim £119.90 from Phones4U by redemption over the 2 year contract.
6 - Taking both cashbacks into account the monthly cost is about £3.63 p/m! :money:

If you don't like or want the unlocked Nokia Lumia 520, sell it and buy another phone!! :j

Nah. I only go for deals where I at least make a profit before selling the phone (and was only one such deal available at recently). This one's been around for a couple of months (and there are alternatives). That's also assuming you know exactly what you're doing from now until the end of the 24 month contract or it won't be so good. I'm currently suing one dealer for the cashback and may have to repeat the exercise a few more times the way things are going.

Of course, I had considered doing this deal and selling the phone, but the profit isn't as high as I usually make on a contract and my general rule is a profit before selling the phone.

Do you guys all stay well clear of the phone companies that offer cash back? You prefer to go direct?

No, I use them all the time but you need to do your research beforehand and understand the terms and conditions involved and be methodical with you claims if you don't want problems.

At present I have 10 contracts, 7 of them cashback. Over the years I have now had over 40 cashback contracts and only once had to resort to an LBA .

He who dares wins.......if you do your research.

Blimey; you have the same number of current cashback contracts as me! I only have one non-cashback contract and that's because it was a mistake on the website and gave me a free contract without cashback. Unfortunately (as I'm sure you know) there haven't been many profitable cashback deals around for the last couple of years, otherwise I'd have more. One dealer at present is also showing signs of distress, which further restricts the possibilities for these deals (one stage further from the LBA, though they have now paid the cashback so only need to recover the court costs). Still, always hopeful - I do need two more targetted free cashback deals in particular in the next six months, though I'll grab more than that should profitable ones appear. Would hate to actually have to resort to paying for my phone calls etc. - or even merely breaking even. Hasn't looked too good in either respect for quite some time, but have managed both thus far and have no intention of surrendering!

I also look out for the occasional special offers that appear that do not involve redemption , although they also appear to be dying out.

Some of these deals were only on the websites for a day or two. The best one I had was a Samsung Galaxy S for £10/month with Quidco or TCB cashback ( don't remember which )which although was advertised at £40 actually paid out at £80.
I sold the phone for £280 so with the cashback that made £360 and found a relative happy to take the tariff for £5/month....net profit over 24 months £240.

I have also had 2 free phones from one CPW company who sent out top of the range phones but didn't activate the contracts yet were also inept enough to pay out £50 Quidco cashback on both within 30 days.....it just shows how useless they are !

Lucky! I've had the same on cheap phone contracts from CPW over the years - always amazes me when punters come on here asking if they should let them know or return the phone!

It's possible to get a good bundle and make a small profit at present - but goes against my principles to take a deal where the initial cashback for ordering doesn't produce at least a small profit before selling the phone. Have had a couple of stunning deals in the last 6 months - although now have to enforce the cashback - but they were literally only around for a day or two. Got another superb deal about 2 years ago which was a mistake on the dealers' website; grabbed it immediately but when ordering for someone else straight away theirs was declined because it was a mistake! Also grabbed the free 12 month sim from T-Mobile with a decent bundle last November. Hungry for more but the deals aren't quite good enough again now.

As you say, when the right deal does appear you need to grab it immediately - whether you need a replacement contract or not!

    Happy hunting...

    Thanks OP.

Note you can get £100 cashback on Quidco (or £105 TCB if you use highest cashback guarantee and are a Premium member). Can also get t-mobile 100 mins/unlimited texts/1gb data (make sure you choose the right option) which may be better for some.
