pro-rata job

Hi all!

I hope you can help as my brain seems to have gone all swiss-cheese today!!

I have seen a job in a school that I quite fancy but its got the salary as £17980 pro-rata term time only and I cant for the life of me work out the actual salary!

I have always worked full time in offices so have no idea of this sort of thing! Are there any of you clever bods who can tell me how to work it all out?! Also, as its term time only would I get a certain amount of days paid holiday?!

You'd have to check exact terms with the school, but assuming it is full days during term time, it would work out at around 39/47xfull time salary - so about £15k ish, with all holidays taken within the school holidays.
(This is just rough to give you an idea, not exact. I'm sure the school could give you what proportion of full time hours the job is to do a more accurate calc)

    Hi,

I used to work in school and my wage was worked out like this (I think):

    salary = £17,980

term time only is usually 38 or 39 weeks (depending on if you're expected to work inset days) and you usually get 5 or 6 weeks paid holiday including bank holidays (my Head said we're paid for most of the summer hols like a retainer).

So £17980 for 45 weeks (based on 39+6) gives £400 a wk based on a 40 hours working week - basically the rate is £10 an hour.

Then multiply by the number of hours you'll be contracted to work (full time is usually somewhere between 32.5 and 37 hours)

    Hope that helps.

    Wouldn't it be £17980 / 52 = £345.77 x 40 = £13380?

Or is it not that simple?

The £17980 is the full time salary - ie for 52 weeks. So your figures are all out.

Leave would be around 4.5 weeks.

    So 17980 / 52 x (39+4.5) = £15040 per annum.

Basically, you divide the salary pa (52 weeks) by the no of weeks that the job offers. Then divide again by 12 for your monthly salary! Annual leave will be included in the weeks that you work!

Be aware that a lot of the lower paid jobs in schools are shorter working days too. A lot of TAs are only contracted for 6 hour days (9-3) so only a 30 hour working week which can further decrease the actual wage.

I don't know exactly how mine is worked out but my 32.5 hour week plus INSET = 12.5k actual from 16.3k pro rata

Most full time primary jobs are 27.5 hours per week. I'm paid for 44 weeks a year, equal monthly pay. The general hourly rates are between £8-£10 per hour.
