Received 2 phone calls today supposedly from Microsoft...number is 0061280051667..speaker sounded Asian/Indian?
Said my PC is downloading dangerous stuff and he wanted to help.
Have Googled the number but nothing apart from companies asking me to send in a report.
Does anyone know anything about this?

Either don't answer or if you do - PUT THE PHONE RIGHT BACK DOWN!
There was a scam a couple of years back and a company used to call people saying they from whatever company and they have found you have a virus on your PC.
They get you to log on and ask to control your session. You end up having to pay for a service but this is how they then get all of your details and take money from your account. I didn't find out the end outcome for the person that this happened to - but if they have control of your session, they can grab all of your personal details as well as put viruses on there when it was fine in the firsat place!

Microsoft does not make unsolicited phone calls to help you fix your computer

I got such a call today - just kept asking them what company they were calling from (no-one said it was Microsoft btw dmxx)
They simply refused to answer, mildly amusing for about 30 seconds my end then just hung up.
Never ever entertain these cold calls! How could they possibly know anything about your computer??!! They even said so me "sorry did you say you don't have a computer?" when they opened with "your computer is.....", just so porous. I thought everyone was aware of such BS by now. Spread the word!!!Friendly greeting!0 -
:cool:If they can snare even 10% of calls made they're on a good number. They'll move on then return sometime later. Best to leave them hanging on for a while.0

No harm in picking the phone up and speaking to the operator but dont follow the instructions the operator gives you to do.0 -
Thanks all...as I suspected!
I left him to chat away for a while before he hung up...he then phoned again to say connection had been broken! {their money he was wasting, not mine!]
I questioned him continually before telling him to "go away" and never phone me again but thought I would do a check anyway as never had this one before!0 -
http://whocallsme.com/ this sometimes helps to identify unknown callers0

Or tell them you have 10 computers and can they identify which one has the virus0
-
Or just say you don't have a computer ...they hang up :rotfl:0

Yes, and ask them for the IP address of the infected one. Again they ring off. Mind you, sometimes I can't be bothered with them and just tell them they're fraudsters and liars and ring off myself.0
