You are joining a motorway where traffic is at 70. You should be matching the speed of the vehicles you are joining and it can be dangerous to be so slow. If there is no one around to annoy then fill your boots, but you can fail your driving test for not keeping up with the flow of traffic, so bear this in mind.
On long slip roads I agree, but on short ones it's not always possible to get up to 70.What will your verse be?

How did you establish that they think they are doing 70mph?
Well my father and sister both thought their speedo was correct, until the day we all drove in convoy to visit another relative.
They followed me down the motorway when I was doing 70mph by my Sat-Nav (an indicated 75 on the speedo.
They both complained that to keep up with me they had to exceed 70mph, and asked me to not go so fast going home.
My Dad thought we were doing nearly 80mph!
Sister said she wanted to go first so we didn't go over the limit!
I don't think they are the only ones to have high reading speedos.0 -
I'm afraid Mother Dee lives life by her own rules and explaining otherwise to her often results in a small argument. I know that she's committing an offence, you know this, almost every other road user knows this...she probably knows this. I think she just lacks the awareness, which is a terrifying thought when everybody else is travelling at 70mph...
I try and politely nudge her into the left hand lane but this usually makes her speed up anyway. As I said, I just think she gets into a "cruising" mind and slows down a bit.0 -

Probably set higher to give people a bit of leeway with speed cameras. What will your verse be?

I'm a go-slow in urban areas, but I'm mindful.
If the road is empty you'll find me going 25mph in a 30 zone, but if there is someone behind me I'll hit 30mph.0 -
I don't like it, I think its inconsiderate, I'm not of retirement age, I have an extremely busy life and job and I just don't have time to amble through life carefree not caring what hour it is when I eventually arrive wherever I'm going - (that's if I know where I'm going?). I'd say it's really out of order in rush hour peak times because clearly 9 out of 10 people on the road at that time are going to work and could be late...... other times, find some country road I guess.0

You can deny it all you like, but at slower speeds people have more time to react and the resulting collision will be less severe as well.
You are assuming that other factors are unchanged, an unsupported assertion.
It could well be, for example, that people lose concentration when driving more slowly.
When doing my regular trips the length of the country I know that if I'm stuck in 50mph traffic that I'll start feeling sleepy far sooner than if I can travel at a higher speed.
You need evidence, not just assertions, if you want to claim that your theory is true.0 -

You'd need to be driving an exceptionally, exceptionally slow vehicle for that to be a problem. Buses, lorries, and Dacias manage it just fine. Are you sure that you are using all of your vehicle's acceleration, and proper use of the gears?0 -

My next paragraph did say
"Let's pretend that everyone kept their exact driving ability and level of concentration, but reduced their speeds by 20%. HOW could that result in more accidents?"
I was talking hypothetically.
That said, I don't see why I need to prove anything. My claims that slower driving gives me people more time to react and also results in less serious collisions is irrefutable. The people who need to provide evidence are those saying that people concentrate less when they drive more slowly, because I so far haven't seen any evidence that slow driving results in a lapse of concentration. I've seen only conjecture. What will your verse be?
