I'm less bothered by people driving below the speed limit, than I am by them (and the people behind them) driving so close together that I can't overtake safely...

This is the real issue (sort of), slow drivers wouldn't be half as bad if it wasn't for the social stigma that tells us overtaking is "rude" and "aggressive". So you end up with slow poke up front and a bunch of people tailgating them, forming a queue of 10 cars, nose to tail and impossible to overtake.

-- if a road is 60, then its 60 for a reason. Its safe in optimal weather.

The speed limit isn't always indicative of how fast you can drive safely. To think that is very naive.

If it wasn't safe to do so in optimal conditions then it would not be made as such.

I've noticed a trend these last few years of people driving in the outer lane of dual carriageways at the speed limit or just under when there is nothing in the inside lane.
I have a 3 mile stretch of dual carriageway near me between two roundabouts. In both directions, a hell of a lot of people when they get on to that stretch seem to consider the right hand lane to be the filter lane for turning right at the roundabout 3 miles ahead.

So, iyho, every bit of NSL road in the country is safe at 60 in good weather?

Optimal conditions, ie on a dry straight with clear visibility.

Youve assumed that he means in excess of the limit.

I have made no assumptions. Your remarks to the OP also apply to you.

So why say it then? Backpeddling suits you.

Would you care to expand on what you mean by "clear visibility"?
