Hi everyone,

Just a quick post to say that I had 2 missed calls on my mobile this morning from +44 845 331 2610 (may also come up as 0845 331 2610) claiming to be from Nationwide.

I've called them using the number on the back of my debit card and they confirm that, as far as they can tell, this number is not one of theirs.

What's concerning is that the mobile called is my new one which I updated Nationwide with before I went away last month. The most likely option is that it's an auto dialer.

I did call the 0845 number back from my works mobile and the recorded message that plays has a very different voice-over man than Nationwide uses.

Please note that this information is correct at the time of this post - if I find out otherwise, I'll update the thread.

    It's not fake.

    http://www.nationwide.co.uk/support/contact-us/call-us#xtab:twistyitem-general-enquiries-for-existing-customers-unless-it-is-related-to-mortgages-or-insurance

The number is listed under "Money Worries or Payment Difficulties" as an automated number.

Worrying though that Nationwide don't recognise their own numbers or know what it might be about...

Well, the guy I spoke to in the current accounts department spoke to one of his colleagues in that department and they did not recognise the number.

Also, the number does not appear on their website anywhere.

For the moment, I've redirected them to the fax number for West Midlands Police in Birmingham :)

I'll call them back and see what they say.

I've just provided a link to their website and told you exactly where that number is listed. It's Nationwide's number...

    UPDATE:

SeduLOUs is absolutely correct: I called back through on the "back of the debit card" number and asked to be transferred to that department and it's genuine. My bad :o.

    Don't I look like a moron now? ;)

I've found it now by looking under the section you mentioned.

I hit Ctrl + F on the page and searched for the number as I'd written it, but no matches. What they've done is to write it on the page as 0845 3312610 instead, which is where my confusion came from (I'm used to writing numbers out with particular spacing, you see).

No not at all. It's always right to be suspicious and to double check everything before giving out personal information.

Not in the slightest. You were suspicious, and it looked like with good reason. After you were shown that the number was real, you didn't kick off like so many 2-post wonders do here :)

    Well, I'm not exactly a 2-post wonder though, am I? :)

I know I often post total crap ;)
  • Hi everyone
I just wanted to add to this discussion because I would like to help anyone else who was in a similar situation as my family- being continuously harassed by 08453312610 calls.

This number is a genuine Nationwide number. We have persistently been harassed over numerous weeks by automated calls from this number, ringing numerous times a day from 8 o'clock in the morning till late in the evening. My husband being an ambulance man works shifts, has lost sleep and I have been extremely inconvenienced due to working from home. These calls have been for my daughter who no longer lives with us. We spoke to our local Nationwide branch who denied these calls were anything to do with Nationwide. At my wits end I rang Nationwide and was passed to their investigations department and then onto the collections dept where we finally got to the bottom of the problem. They have agreed to finally stop ringing us. I cannot believe a reputable company such as Nationwide can act in a manner that can cause such distress to its loyal customers. We have considerable life savings with Nationwide and we will be closing our accounts. My advice is if you are being harassed in the same way contact Nationwide's collections department on 08004643040.
  • Do you think closing the accounts will stop the calls then? Did not for your daughter. The only calls I get from Nationwide are from N insurance (or some such) which are not related to Nationwide.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
