New Gas Meter

Hi

So we are doing up an old house and have had National Grid come out and cut the gas pipe and redirect it to outside the house in a semi concealed ground box.

My friend who is a Gas Engineer said I need to phone my provider to get a new Gas Meter fitted he said ti should be free but OVO Energy want £92 does anyone know if other providers do it for free?

And do any provide Smart Meters for Free OVO said they use a 3rd party company to install the meters so she couldn't even tell me if i was going to get a smart meter ..really rubbish service to be honest.

I thought gas meters such as the Landis Gyr Libra 310 were "smart" meters - these are being installed in residential properties?

That's not my meter, just a google image search result.

Sorry, didn't mean to get your hopes up. :)

A friend has recently had a smart gas meter installed by First Utility - he seems pleased with it and them. According to their website they don't charge for smart meter installation.

So? Why should they not charge you for the service? Did you ask your neighbours to pay for curtains? Did you apply to Government for new carpets to bought with taxation?

Why on earth would Ovo care if another supplier had to charge more expensive prices because one-off costs were passed on to all customers rather then the beneficiary?

They will tell you to go ahead. And continue to offer a cheaper product because they are not wasting money accommodating free-loaders.

Of course this is money saving expert and you are free to exploit this system - sign up with British Gas, pocket benefits, then swan off to a supplier without such overheads. But Ovo won't care.
