Charge notice posted to address when on holiday

Hi - I have tried on internet to find out whether I have grounds for appeal against a charge notice that was posted to my address when we were on holiday. As a result we did not receive it until our return by which time the £35 charge has risen to £110 due to our non response. I have appealed directly to CPPlus and did this on the same day we returned. Has anybody else had a similar problem - I'm sure it must happen frequently.
Thanks Terry

Did you tell them that you would be on holiday? If so then you have good grounds for disputing it. If you didn't then tough
Only joking, Please read the Newbies sticky threadThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Your appeal will almost certainly be rejected but armed with the POPLA code that they must provide with that rejection and the guidance provided here you can win that appeal and have to pay nothing whether what they claim is £35 or £110.

Most importantly you need to understand that winning appeals against such companies means concentrating on the legalities (which the Newbies thread will educate you about) and not the facts of your case. Once you have bent your head around that you'll do fine. It just needs a bit of reading.
Don't be concerned - CP Plus - as a private company - do not have the authority or right to fine you. What you have is an invitation to settle a civil "wrong" they say you (or more accurately the driver at the time) are responsible for. Whether there was ever such a wrong is highly debatable as is CP Plus's ability to make such a claim. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
