Hardly money saving but at your mums age, if she can afford it and it gives her and you peace of mind, why the heck not.
Perhaps you could sell the old one to get a bit of money back for her or if she's not bothered about the money donate it to somewhere like a British Heart Foundation, that way you'd feel some one has benefited.
Hope you get it sorted soon. It's very stressful and upsetting having a worried, fretful elderly loved one.

A few months ago I would have fretted over the 'wasted' money, but I have recently realised that it's not my money to worry about. My job now, is to make sure that she gets the best value for her money and that someone else can benefit from her old machine.
Mind you, it seems that, when one of mum's 'problem' are solved another one takes it's place very quickly. She has become very anxious since dad died.

I feel exactly the same. My dad died last year, leaving mum on her own. There are 6 of us. We all take it in turns to go down to make sure she is ok. She has plenty of money, so why not spend it? I am taking her tomorrow to get a new recliner chair, hers is knackered.

All the rest of the family had baggsied all the valuable items in the house, or sentimental ones before I even got a look in, I just wanted them both to be happy and well. There was nothing left really to put my name down on, so I jokingly said, when she pops her clogs, I want her Stannah stairlift ! She is made up ! So I have said to her and the rest of the family, that I am taking her for a new chair, but she has to choose a colour I like, which will go in with MY furniture, cos I am having that too! She said yes.

That's me sorted for about 10-15 years time then, when I will need them ! lol

The salt keep the water softener in the dishwasher in good nick so detergent has very likely caused some damage.

Get it checked or replace if its a peace of mind thing.. I doubt if its as simple as run a few washes and it will be fine.
