I had 10 Vantage joint current accounts with Lloyds (1 Premier, 9 Classic), all earning me 3% for balances in between £3k to £5k.
Lloyds changed things. Now only the Club account pays a decent interest (4% on the whole balance for keeping balances in between £4k and £5k, 2% for balances in between £2k and £4k - so pretty tight, eh, and likely to be missed. Miss once and you drop down to the lower level. Very active management will be definitely needed by me to get the best results! I tell you this: If I find I can't do it - then I'm away with even this last Lloyds Club current account for sure.)
So, it had to be 'Bye Bye Lloyds' for 9 of the Classic Vantage current accounts.
Q. Where to put these funds?
A. Santander 123 current accounts.
I now have 3 of the latter and actually set up the required number of D/Ds in them manually, cancelling the pertinent Lloyds D/Ds after doing it. I also told the recipient companies on the phone too, just to make sure things would go smoothly - you have to give these D/Ds time to kick in - the changes are not instant!
Anyhow, "How did it go with Santander?" you are asking.
It all went very well so far. Everything has opened without a hitch. I have not yet had to phone Santander on anything and did everything online with them.
When you open accounts with them, you will need information on hand:
Net income after tax - from any and all of the several different sources, other net income, sole and partner if it's a joint account, etc. All very straight forward really.
Hope that helps.0 -
Although note that you can now only open a single Santander 123 account in your sole name and one in a joint name.
Or, as Santander put it: "One single or one joint 123 Current Account (or one of each) per person only.", which seems a bit more confusing to read.

Applied through Quidco, current cashback only £35 but better than nothing.
Quidco also offering £12.50 on 123 Credit Card opening too so I didn't opt for the credit card as part of the 123 current account opening as I was offered. Will apply separately once the current account switch has fully completed.0 -
I have had accounts with Santander since I was 14 years old, so 23 years now.
I currently have 123 current acct, 123 Isa, and my 4% 2 yr fixed ISA just matured.
In 23 years I have only actually had to deal/speak to someone once!
About 10 years ago my bank account, that I would only leave £30 in, went overdrawn, not my mistake - interflora charged me twice for the £20 bouquet I ordered online. I didnt know this til I looked in my account a few months later and noticed a £30 fee for going over and a charge every month or so. I phoned them up, told them what happened and they cancelled all the charges.
I have never had to speak to someone regarding any of my accounts/isa's and I like it that way! I would happily recommend Santander0 -
(I don't think this counts as digging up an old thread...)
I'm struggling to find the issue which is currently holding up me switching to Santander 123 online.
I'm at the "3. Financial Details" stage; gross salary = edited out, monthly net = edited out, approx. monthly outgoings = edited out (or £0 if specific to account), monthly pay to account = edited out
"We are unable to progress your application because your total outgoings are greater than your total income, if you have entered an incorrect amount please amend to proceed. Please note: you could be asked to provide documentation to verify your financial information."
Tried £0 out, and £200 out. £ symbol and no £ symbol. I simply cannot see why the wood for the trees here. The new Halifax account I'm switching has 2 DD and £20k say to transfer.
Is it me or is the site playing silly beggars? I've read everything on this page enough to dare ask such a potentially idiotic question on a forum!
Edit: so it turns out the form didn't like decimal points. !!!!!!.0 -
Well my 7 day transfer from Intelligent Finance to Santander 123 is complete today. Very impressed, went through with no hitches at all. Thanks to all that replied, you helped convince me to get over my fears about Santander.0

You need to remove any decimal points and it will work:)0
