Buying Wood Venetian Blinds.

Options
Hi, Can anyone recommend a really good Company or supplier of custom made wood venetian blinds please? I recently ordered from an internet based firm a number of blinds and these all turned up damaged or not to the specification ordered! They even sent out a second sent which were equally useless. Any one with personal recopmendations of a supplier with good products and service would be much appreciated. Cheers!

Do they have to be custome made?

Ikea and Dunelm blinds are quite good, Dunelm can be ordered on line too. (Ikea is also on-line but very high delivery charge). B & Q have a good range of colours.

We have also managed to alter our blinds if the sizes aren't quite exact.

I always buy Ikea blind for our houses. They come in all sorts of sizes so you can almost always get them to fit.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • Thanks for your replies. The property is a converted barn so all the window sizes are different and ready made blinds just aren't available in the sizes required.

As a postscript to the issue of the faulty blinds ordered through the internet. The supplier wanted me to take a third set of blinds from them which I refused as I no longer have any faith in them to be able to provide correctly specified, undamaged goods. They also failed to keep delivery promises and have prevaricated no end over the complaint. They also stated they would not refund my money even though I have returned both set of faulty blinds and have none of their goods. This is now the subject of a complaint and credit card chargeback so my recomendation is DO NOT deal with 247blinds.co.uk.

I used these people from a recommendation on this site. I only needed standard sizes though so don't know how good they are for custom made.

  • Please don't whatever you do go with Hillarys blinds.

I am not the only one to have had problems with this company, they are shocking. Since I had problems and starting speaking about it with friends and relatives, they all seem to have had the same problems too, and it isn't limited to my geographical area, these people are located in various places around the UK.

The sales people seem to receive limited commision, so if something does go wrong, it is easier for them not to come back out and deal with the problem as it will eat into their commision.

I remember listening to my sales person talking on the phone to head office at the point he realised one blind was missing from the order and the other was damaged and he said well if I come back to this lady to fit them when the blinds arrive I won't be earning any commision and I'll effectively be fitting them for free.

I didn't expect him then to decide not to return. It took three months of phone calls to him, who made every excuse under the sun, including denying he ever had the blinds, I then made a complaint to head office, who basically shrugged and said it was nothing to do with them, the sales people are self employed!! In the end I eventually got a refund, but that ended up being because a separate company who I employed later to make the blinds for me knew of the person and phoned him to say how shoddy he was and were appauled at the way I had been treated. Miraculously my refund arrived just over a week later.

Again I am not the only one who has had the similar problems to the above. Friends have had Hillarys make the blinds and find the fitters didn't fit them properly, they were too long, too short, too wide, the stain was uneven.

Anyway, after my ramble, I would personally recommend going to John Lewis and getting them made, you know they are a reputable company, and likely to look after you when things go wrong, you might find you pay a fraction more, but I would sooner that than the nightmare I had.

I ended up purchasing mine from a new curtain and blind shop (independant retailer) who had recently opened up their business in my town. If you are anywhere near Berkshire I can highly recommend them.
  • I have just replied to a similar question on another thread.

Got some made-to-measure wooden blinds from http://www.discountblindcentre.co.uk/. My window is over 2 metres wide, and the blinds fit perfectly.

Delivery time is approx 5 working days.
  • Hi We use a company called www.web-blinds.com and they have been great everytime, check out their site cos they always have great deals on aswell!!
  • i had a similar experience last year with another online blind company....one thing after another went wrong. I would say just avoid all online blind companies..... but recently my friend bought some from a company called The Blind Shop. She ordered just one to test them out, as the postage was free, it arrived very well packaged and really is a lovely blind, especially for the price, with very nice fabric tapes instead of the usual cord type...i think it was about £70 for a quite large blind about a meter wide.
She has just ordered the rest of the blinds from them, so i will post a message to let everyone know what they where like. Anyway, the website is www.theblindshop.com
    hope this helps
  • :j Have a look on Contour Blinds website. www.contourblinds.co.uk

Although their website is very easy to navigate, I bought over the phone. Because I was buying three blinds, I thought I would be cheeky and ask for discount. Because I paid by Debit Card as opposed to Credit by Card, they offered me free delivery. I was extremely pleased by the quick delivery and quality. The price was great to. (I spent two evenings trawling the net)
