I think May is the month for fastest growth and I remember you had to watch that horses and sheep didn't gorge themselves on it as they suffer badly for some sort of bloat. After the downpours we have had on the Humber in the last 24 hours I wouldn't be surprised to see my poor lawn (lots of weeds, very poor quality turf) becoming 6" high over the next few days. Fortunately I have a beast which will cope with it,(and I mean a self start petrol 24" cut, not a goat!) but I can hardly move the brown wheelie bin when it's full. I know, I have to have a compost heap, but new garden, it will all take a while.

We don't have a lawn (a waste of space in a small wildlife garden), but we do have a tiny (one foot square!) meadow which only needs cutting down once a year at harvest time. :)

Mine's been growing incredibly fast over the last month or so. Last weekend I cut it in two stages as the flymo wouldn't have coped with the length after a fortnight being uncut.
