Incorrect Entries - How To Remove???

Hi all,

I’ve had a detailed look through my credit file and have noticed some serious anomalies and wondered if you could give me some advice?

I have a CCJ from Northampton County Court (as stated in a previous post), with a letter of satisfaction from United Utilities. Instead of sending the letter of satisfaction to the courts, can I send a copy to the CRA’s for them to have it removed off my credit file (I paid it within 30 days)?

My main concerns are the below entries, which I know nothing about. My address and name are correct on them but my D.O.B. is nowhere near. I’ve given details on the company, balance and date opened/defaulted/settled.

Company: SHOP DIRECT FINANCE COMPANY LTD
Started: 28/11/09
Settled: 02/01/10
Account Updated to 03/01/10.
Balance £0
Problem: Name/address OK. D.O.B. incorrect. Entered on credit file twice.

Company: LOWELL PORTFOLIO I LTD
Started: 26/11/10
Default Date: 05/07/11
Account Updated to 04/05/14
MAIL ORDER £217
Problem: Name/address OK. D.O.B. incorrect. Only added to credit file in March 2014.

Company: LOWELL PORTFOLIO I LTD MAIL ORDER
Started: 11/06/08
Default Date: 19/01/09
Account Updated to 26/04/09
Balance: £199
Problem: Name wrong (missing letters), address OK. D.O.B. wrong

CAPQUEST (FORMERLY FTC)
Started: 26/10/09
Default Date: 07/05/10
Account Updated to 18/05/14
Balance: £156
Problem: Name spelt wrong. Address OK. D.O.B. wrong.

Company: SANTANDER CURRENT ACCOUNT
Started: 20/10/06
Default Date: 22/08/08
Account Updated to 20/04/14
Problem: Never had an overdraft or current account with Santander

Any idea how I can get rid of these as I don’t believe they’re valid. Most of them expire in the next 12 – 18 months but it’s besides the point!!!

Cheers, Graham

.....and just to clarify, I'm not trying to get out of paying these debts, I genuinely believe they're correct. The debts I have which are current/correct I have on a DMP with Step Change.

How can these records be posted against your name when the basic DoB identifier is incorrect?

Not a clue - that's why I want to have them removed from my credit file. My birth month/year is 09/1981 yet the entries are 10/1978, 06/1973, 10/1981 and 11/1980. My name is spelt in various ways or has some letter missing. Only thing that is consistent is my address.
  • Just put notes on them as incorrect for now, that what I did.

I could do that or dispute the with Experian. They're not on Noddle and not checked Equifax yet (waiting for the Key to access).

They won't make much difference anyway because I've got a few other defaults that I'm managing via Step Change but I don't want them on there as they're not mine.

Out of interest (to anyone in the know) should I just as Experian to remove them and see what happens or query with the DCA's/Creditors to have them removed?

I think you should contact Experian and ask them for an explanation why they are posting incorrect data against your name. Specifically, if a record has a different DoB to yours then on what basis do they assign it to you? I'd be interested to see how they wriggle out of that one. It seems to me they are in breach of data protection principles.

Cheers GingerBob. I'll raise disputes on them all and ask Experian to explain themselves. It'll be interesting to see if they're on Equifax too...!!

If they verify a name and address and no-one else has the same name at that address the DOB is not a factor which is why it will be assigned to the OP.

So do you suggest I send the creditors a "prove it" letter as I have never had any catalogue credit before for definate. Also, the fact fact that the Santander account is pre-2007 should I send a CCA letter to them asking for the credit agreement for the overdraft I didn't know I had?!?!
