I don't think I'll tell my daughter there's one harder paper as I think that would put her off and affect her confidence - she might be thinking every time "this is the hardest paper & I can't do it"0

Busy mum - I agree, there's no point telling the kids there is a harder paper. However, if (like my daughter in 2010) they come out of Paper 2 thinking it was really hard and are therefore anxious about Paper 3 being equally hard, we could then tell them that there is, in fact, one harder paper but that they've now completed it so paper 3 will not be as hard and will be more like paper 1. That might just help to settle their nerves
We've been to familiarisation day now and my wee man said to me afterwards 'oh this is so real now'. God help them, some kids looked very nervous. Can't wait until it's all over
ROLL ON 29 NOV
6 WEEKS AND COUNTING ....

Flymetothemoon - good thinking - I will keep that one up my sleeve as a motivator. Yes - it will b so good 2 hav this over except I hav a boy in P6 so the break won't be too long!0

Poor you Busy Mum, at least I have quite a few years before I have to go through this again and who knows maybe they will have a better solution thought out by then!! Won't hold my breath on that one.
Think that is a good idea flymetothemoon for the kids who already haven't been told there is a harder paper. Don't understand why there is a harder paper anyway!0 -
I wonder if it's possible that one paper is actually set at a higher level than the others... I don't think AQE would ever admit to that (I thought all papers had to be equal?) how could it be fair for one to be harder? Tho It makes sense, my sister can get a score in the mid 80s in one paper then mid 70s in another... Some papers being at a higher level could explain that.
Thought about telling her about 1 paper being harder but decided not to.. Great idea Flymetothemoon about using it as a motivator tho if they find a paper difficult.
I wish we could be confident now but her scores still aren't consistent..she can have a brilliant one at 87% then the next one can be 76-79% (this has me so worried) I'm putting a lot of hope that on the offical test days the pressure will push her to do her best.
We went to the familiarisation day yesterday (Belfast Royal Academy). So many people being in the room at the start was a bit chaotic (she doesn't cope well with crowds or really noisy situations) and was full of fear when the teacher said that they were about to take the children to the rooms... But they did a little 20 question sample paper which she got 18/20 in and that cheered her up.
Busy mum my brother is in p6 too so we'll be through it all next year too, but he is in a different primary school and they are much better at preparing the children than her school.:hello: Animals are my friends...and I don't eat my friends:EasterBun0 -
Hi Veggie Northern Ireland, I know we are all still worrying about the scores but if you take the two best scores out of every three that your sister is doing I'm sure her average score is above 75%. My daughters scores are the same, nearly out of every three papers that she is doing there is a mid 70's score on one of them, sometimes it has been the second paper and sometimes it has been the third, never the first paper of the three.
Can't imagine having to go through this all again next year, my head would be pickled! Lol😊0 -
Busy mum & Veggie Northern Ireland - you both have my sympathies having to go through this mill 2 years in a row. Even though I've had a 4 year gap from 1st child to 2nd child this year, the 1st time round feels like yesterday and although my 2nd child is better prepared, I can't help worrying that the pressure might get to him or that he just might not do as well in the real tests as I know he can. All we can all do is keep everything crossed, try not to let them know we're stressed and hope for the best !!0

Veggie NI - I agree with Mrs Mum that if your sister maintains 75% + she should ultimately be ok as this would give her a score of 100 +0

Thanks Mrs mum and Flymetothemoon.. She is usually scoring 79% so hopefully that's high enough. It's just knowing how much she is capable of but that silly mistakes are still keeping her back!:hello: Animals are my friends...and I don't eat my friends:EasterBun0

Veggie Northern Ireland I think we all get frustrated when they make silly mistakes but as long as they don't make too many they should be ok, that's what I keep telling myself anyway😊0
