Lol kyral, not playing football was a major gripe with my husband when he went to grammar school. But then again, I think with him everything about school was a gripe:)

Probably exactly the same with my son if i'm honest lol.

    Hey Mrs Mum
Thanks for letting us know about this because I've been wondering whether the schools still do familiarisation days. My first child did AQE in 2010 and the school did hold one of these in mid October but although my second child is now due to sit AQE at the same school I've not yet had any word about this and it has been on my mind as the tests are now only 5 weeks away. Think I'll ring the school before end of this week and ask.

Most of the schools seemed to have it in their calendars on their web sites so you are able to look it up but Belfast High, which is were my daughter is sitting the test, didn't. Oh my, 5 weeks, the parents will be glad when this is over, never mind the kids, lol.

Just wandering what scores are like with 5 weeks left until the first test? Daughter is still a bit up and down, one test could be in the 80s, next test could be in the 70s and then the next test could be in the 90s! Are others in the same position?
  • Mrs Mum, it feels like we're stuck at a wall here with scores... Her scores have stayed at 78-79% for the past few weeks. English is usually high (27-28 out of 32) but she is having lots of math mistakes that she could be getting right which is so frustrating! It really feels like we're running out of time.

Hi Veggie Northern Ireland, I know what you mean about the silly mistakes in the maths. Daughter can get the really difficult ones right and then makes a really silly mistake in a maths question that you would think she shouldn't even have to think about! When we started this whole process it seemed such a long way off and now it is just around the corner!
  • It's so frustrating knowing that even just 4 mistakes makes the difference between 79% and 85%... I wish there were definite set boundaries so we knew what rough final scores they would be sitting at rather than speculating with past scores.

  • Hi ladies, just looking some opinions on the transfer test. My son is not performing well in the practice papers, he's scoring on average 35 out of the maximum 64. My husband and I are considering withdrawing him from the test as we feel the pressure and probable disappointment of a failure would not be fair on him. We also feel that if he did miraculously manage to get a grammar school score, that a grammar school wouldn't be the best place for him, as he may be better suited to a less academically focused school. This is obviously a very hard decision that ultimately our son will decide, but just wanted to see what other people think of the idea? Thanks
