Hi Veggie Northern Ireland, her scores have been anywhere between 75% and 84%, so not exactly consistent. Thanks for the info re the percentage and scores. I just hope that she will settle her nerves, she has worked so hard over the summer and I will be upset for her because of the effort she has made.0

Hi Busy mum, thanks for the advice regarding prompting her every 15 mins, will give that a go, at this stage anything is worth a try, maybe if she knows exactly what time she has she won't panic just as much. She has done a few of the practice papers that have been in the Belfast Telegrapgh, these aren't as long and they are to complete them in 45 mins and she is finishing them well with the time but it just seems that when she is in the classroom her little nerves get the better of her. She is trying really hard and I really hope her score will reflect the of effort and time she is putting in. Roll on November!0

My son's scores have also plummeted since he started P7. He was consistently in high 60s in May & June and in 3 practice tests done at home in August. He also had a few tests in the 70s and one hit 80% which I was really pleased with. In short, I was not worried about him going into P7 as I thought he'd be well able to achieve a score in the 70s by November (I'm pretty convinced that an AQE score of 100 requires about 70-74%). However his scores have absolutely plummeted since going into P7 and I think panic has set in. I know he has the ability and knowledge to get through this but I am beginning to wonder whether or not he'll be able to cope with the pressure. He was so relaxed in P6 and doing well but now that the real tests are looming, he seems to have lost it. He's making so many silly mistakes I cannot believe it. Also, he doesn't get papers finished in class but he does at home?? I'm beginning to think the environment in class is not conducive to doing well not least because of the number of kids in his class who have pulled out of the tests since the start of Sept. Only half of the boys are still doing the tests. He is even beginning to worry about going to a new school where he doesn't know anyone so he's telling me he'll go to the local secondary with his mates who have pulled out. I have therefore, very reluctantly, called in a tutor, even though my son does not want one. The tutor has advised that this is a common scenario and has given me hope that the situation can be recovered. Here's hoping !!0

Thanks for your reply on the other thread about raw scores Flymetothemoon
I'd love to feel confident for a score of 70-74% for final score of 100 (we should hopefully need 99) but I just feel it'll need to be a higher %
Going between your reply and the other reply of a child that got 92% (score 119) I guessed around 77% would be 100... We'll find out at the end of January
The wait until then will be terrible, thank goodness christmas is in the middle to break the time up a bit.
I know how you feel when they have the ability but the tests just don't seem to show it sometimes, when my sister was in her old school she was in the top group and usually one of the top in her work... When she moved schools they have her in the middle group (even tho her practice tests scores have been highest in the class in most of their papers) and she hates not being in the top, worst that she says she is bored and the work is all things that she already knows. The teacher doesn't even ask the children their score, she just calls out the answers for them to mark their tests and that's it.
Silly mistakes actually drive me insane! Our worst one was doing the sum at the side of the page.. Doing the sum right but when writing the answer in the answer space she wrote a different answer that her sum!
How far have your sons scores dropped? My sisters scores dropped during the summer but seem to be going up a bit now. We will do a test at home tomorrow, last weeks was 78% but she isn't very consistent yet so if she scores around the same again I'll be happy.:hello: Animals are my friends...and I don't eat my friends:EasterBun0 -
Hi flymetothemoon, your son sounds as if he is in the same position as my daughter. She had been doing so well previously and her confidence was growing but now her confidence and self belief seems to have gone and I really believe this is affecting her not completing the practice papers. Her scores seem to have dropped significantly, obviously not finishing the papers plays a major part in her scores. I just don't know what to do to help build her up again. I am constantly telling her how proud I am of her and of the effort she has made all summer and is still making and telling her that I believe in her but it is not making a difference to her nerves.0

Mrs Mum, have you tried giving her an easier paper to help her get a higher score for a bit of confidence? I did this back in June and it really helped.:hello: Animals are my friends...and I don't eat my friends:EasterBun0

Thanks Veggie Northern Ireland, that definitely would be worth a try. She seemed to have a bit of a panic attack tonight, it must be playing on her mind, she was very upset. I think she has just hit a wall, she worked so hard over the summer, she never took a break, despite me telling her to take some time off. I think I am going to leave it for a few days, let her clear her head and then as you said, start her again with an easier paper. Thanks again.0

Well Veggie Northern Ireland, despite me saying last night that I was going to give my daughter a few days break, she got an early night last night and got up this morning as fresh as a daisy and wanted to do some work. So she just did a test and got 80%! There she was snoring her little head off last night while my mind was racing, worrying about her cause she was so upset last night. Kids are obviously much more resilient than we give them credit for. No doubt though she will have a few more ups and downs before this whole thing is over. Thanks though for everyones thoughts and advice, it really does help x0

Glad to hear she's calmed down now.. It really makes them cheer up when they get a good score doesn't it? My sisters test this morning was 79%, last weeks was 78% so she's happy it went up.. even if it was only a tiny bit :j how often is your daughter doing tests at home? It's only once a week here, sometimes I feel she should do one during the week... But she gets stressed by homework during the week.:hello: Animals are my friends...and I don't eat my friends:EasterBun0

Yea, it really does boost their confidence when the score rises, even as u say, it is only by 1 per cent. Since going back to school and all her activities restarting we havent been doing just as many papers. She had been doing some maths questions and then later in the week a few comprehension questions. They have just been really busy with homework, so by the time she has finished her homework, has had her dinner it has been time to leave for whatever activity she has had on that night but I think we will perhaps then start stepping up the amount we are doing to two papers a week and then they are doing two papers in school, so hopefully 4 a week should be enough.0
