Looks like it's back to the drawing board for a tablet after getting my hopes up about buying the last Nook HD+ in stock at any of my local Argos stores. Sigh.
Unbelievable that there don't seem to be any UK TV adapters for the Nook! I tweeted @NOOK_Care_UK yesterday asking them if they sold the adapters in UK but no response. Just emailed their customer care also, so fingers crossed they might reply.0 -

"Dear valued customer,
Thank you for contacting NOOK International.
We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with the HDTV adapter availability.
We need to inform you that currently we do not offer this item on our UK website https://www.nook.com/gb. We advise you to visit our US website https://www.bn.com as they might have this item and they offer international shipping.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the issue."
I'd asked if there was anywhere in the UK it could be bought from...
Rules out the Nook then unfortunately.
Thanks for your suggestion devizes18193 will take a look0 -
Thinking of this one now -- just 44 reviews but good spec it seems and has HDMI http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cheapest-Android-Retina-Display-2048/dp/B00JAD1EQC#productDetails
Think it'll be ok?
Having said that, not much info about this tablet apart from what's on the item detail page...0 -
Ordered the Polatab Elite Q9.7" (from my previous post) -- will hope for the best!
It's supposed to be very clear to read with, and has HDMI out so it can be connected to TV. Will hope for the best! Thanks everyone for your feedback, gave me real food for thought and I really appreciate it.0 -

I think it's worth pointing out that this refurbished tablet is only the 7" Nook HD, and not the 9" Nook HD+ that received recommendations in this thread.
The Nook HD isn't a bad tablet, but there are a few superior 7" alternatives. The HD+ is remarkable because it's quite difficult to find a better tablet without spending twice as much.
(And Roy, "16GB" is just the internal storage space! Not the most important specification, coming below screen quality, screen resolution, screen size, CPU, GPU, and RAM at least. Especially when the tablet has a microSD slot!)

In respect of connecting to a TV and worrying about TV adapters ... how about a Chromecast?0
