Run a spyware checker or two (like Spybot) to be sure that you're not running anything you shouldn't be. If that comes up clean it does sound like a problem with your DSL connection (assuming that you are indeed on a DSL line).

What internet connection are you paying for (speed wise)

    and what are you getting:

Hehe you've been upgraded to 5 or 6mbps for free :) score!

You're currently receiving 5mbps(ish) which is VERY good. (though your upload speed seems a bit low for cable but hey)

Ok so we know its not your internet connection.

So its either a problem with your router, or a problem with your pc. Or a problem with the cable between you and your router. Have you got any spare cables you could try? dodgy connectors could be a big issue!

Also there should be a way to see the router stats for your router (not sure how) which would tell you if you're receiving CRC (Cycle reduncancy check) errors which would reduce your connection! This can be caused by dodgy filters though.

One last thing. Go to start > run and type in:
    cmd

    In the new window type:
    ping https://www.google.co.uk

Copy the reply by higlighting eveyrthing with your cursor and pressing enter. This will copy the highlighted text. Then paste in a new reply.

It should be around 20ms for each reply. if it is, then I can guarentee your connections fine and its either spyware or a DNS issue! Which we can also test after :)

Bit higher than it should be for your speeds... but saying that your net should still be quite fast...

sooooooo is this problem spyware related.. hmm.

You say it used to be fine and only the last 2 days its gone slow? Do you do any large downloads (filesharing etc etc). I know some ISP's now do throttling and limiting.

If you're using a lot of your connection, during peak times your speeds will be lowered purposly.

If you've used MORE than your allowed monthly limit, your speed will also be reduced when doing something.

Right NOW is it still going very slow when you try accessing web pages?

Has ANYTHING on your computer changed since it went slow? New software? etc etc...

You could try doing a system restore to 3 days ago. You wont lose any documents or files, but settings wise it will be the same as 3 days ago which could remove spyware issues.

One other thing that would be helpful is downloading a program called hijack this.

The program will display a list of EVERYTHING running int he background of your pc and allow you to stop them. This can determine whether its spyware :)

Thats a link to the download from www.majorgeeks.com :)

EDIT: Its a tiny little app. Open it. click run scan and save in txt file. Then copy the whole text file to a new reply for me :) Then we can look at it together and see hwich things you recognise, and which things look malicious.
