Try vaseline around the rim of the pots, they fall off, assuming the pots do not touch other plants.

Problem is my hostas are quite big (when they are allowed to grow !) so the leaves are generally outside the pots which are quite low so they could still get to the leaves. Not saying snails jump obviously :rotfl:

Are slug pellets ok with pets who go in the garden though?

I've used Vaseline around the rim with some success, although after a while grit and dust sticks to it, giving the little blighters a route through, so remember to reapply at intervals.
I have heard that WD40 can be successful as they don't like the smell either. I've sprayed it around the base of the pots and so far, so good!
(I've spotted snails on our local beach so our snails must be made of sterner stuff!)

Firstly, if the leaves of the plant are touching the ground (or nearly touching) then you need to raise them higher.

Secondly, I have always found copper tape to be excellent for stopping slug eat potted plants.

    Good luck!
