Well....here's my good deed for the day, a little piece of advice.

Please, please don't go out and leave your washing machine on! Especially if other family members are in bed asleep.

Two of my friends have had house fires due to overheating washing machines, one of them lost everything she owned. :(

I don't even run mine overnight now!

What a lovely thing you did! Well done you! A slightly different story but I can use it to tell you that what did means the world.

Once while psychotic it seemed a good idea for me too feed the ducks at the local pond at 3am in my nightdress(it didn't occur to me that it was 3am nor did I think what I was wearing. A policeman drove up and jokingly said "its not deep enough to drown yourself!" as he got out of the car. He sat next to me for ages asking what I was doing and generally chatting and gradually brought me around to the idea that a warm bed safe in a hospital might be better. He tucked me up in his car and drove me there and stayed with me until I was seen. Sadly I was so out of it that I didn't think to thank him and I only had his first name but I have never ever forgotten his kindness. Things like that stay with you.

It's people like you and him that give me faith in the world and it will have meant to the lady if only at the time, and I bet it still does to her relative.

Ditto tumble dryer - I would have lost at least my kitchen and possibly whole house if I had been out.

Hmm, never considered the washing machine factor. Should be more careful as I have a house cat. I did worry that my posting may have come across as being smug and oh look at me, give me praise! That wasn't my intention. I also take pleasure from reading all the wonderful things that many posters have shared on this board. By nature I'm a glass half full person and usually try and see the positives in life. I also understand that many other people don't have this outlook and for them life is difficult, a constant struggle with apparent little reward for all their hard work.
