Links in signatures

The general rule is that most users are not permitted any links in their signature.

Some specific classes of users are permitted or even mandated certain links as provided for within the forum rules.

If there is a specific link you wish to include in your signature, then I guess if you were to email a request (and brief explanation why) to the email address given in the link above, then it may be favourably considered.

I can't see a general permission being given for links as you suggest as it would :
a) Be hard to enforce (at present no active links can be inserted into new signatures, unless otherwise permitted)
b) Perhaps cause confusion, especially for new users, as to what is permitted. It is currently very clear - no links (except where expressly permitted).
c) Be difficult to monitor, especially links to forum posts as the original poster can modify it at any time (unless the thread is locked)
