UK CPS ticket, help?

Hi, I left my motorbike next to a wall tonight (in a cinema car park,) however it wasn't in a marked bay. I got a stick-on ticket from UK CPS Ltd about a £100 fine.

I've googled around a lot & from what I can gather it's a scam, however apparently now ignoring this ticket is not a good idea? The fool who wrote the ticket noted down my registration number incorrectly, in the following manner:

My actual reg: XXXX XXX
Reg on ticket: XXXX XYX

So am I safe to simply ignore this ticket? Even if they do go to the DVLA for my details, with the incorrect VRN they won't even find my personal information! One question I would like to ask though, is that if they have taken a photograph of my motorcycle (and my reg) could they ask the DVLA for my name & address with my reg from the photo, not the ticket? As far as I'm aware, even if the ticket wasn't a load of !!!!!!!!, because the reg is incorrect I'm in the clear - am I correct in this assumption?

Any advice is appreciated, never had a ticket before so not sure what I should do.

Thanks in advance!

PS: I'd just like to add that the car park I was parked in is free to use - so surely if the loss to the landholder is £0, they can only attempt to sue me for £0 if they were to take this to court?

There is nothing stoping them using the reg from the picture, PPC's don't play fair. If the reg they used returns a result at the DVLA and that vehicle is also a bike then you'll probably be in the clear as the person they send the Notice to Keeper to will have to appeal it etc which will take time. This will mean that they may well go over the 56 days allowed to issue you with the notice. With that said, if the error is spotted quickly they could reissue the notice to you. They could also do this after the 56 days (again, they don't play fair). If you do get one then it is simply a case of appealing it as per the Newbies sticky thread.

The normal advice with UKCPS and most other PPCs, is to ignore the windscreen 'ticket' and wait for the first letter anyway - for reasons explained in the sticky thread. Keep the ticket for part of your appeal - although you'll mainly be using the template in the NEWBIES thread if they do send you a NTK.

If this letter does not arrive due to the incorrect registration number, am I safe to just forget about it?

You might like to think about that question a little.

If they don't have the correct registration how EXACTLY can they find either the keeper or the driver ?

That's why I assumed I'd be safe ignoring it, however I'm wondering if they will use my reg from a photo (if they took one) to get my details

In which case you then appeal as per the template in the NEWBIES thread, and then beat them at POPLA as we always do.

Hi, the notice to keeper letter has arrived today, so I'm assuming they used a photo of my motorcycle to obtain the correct registration number. Should I send just the template to UK CPS or should I also state that the ticket has the incorrect registration? They have updated the registration on the payment webpage but I still have the ticket with the incorrect registration number on. Any help is greatly appreciated, cheers

It's largely irrelevant as they have a photo of your bike and will just put it down not clerical error.
Just fire off standard appeal in Newbies thread.
Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Click on words Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Newbie thread is the first post. Blue New Thread button is just above it to left.

If they deny my appeal, surely I should mention it in the second appeal? Because the ticket isn't for a vehicle I have ever owned - or does this not matter because they have a photo? I would have thought it rendered the ticket and "fine" void
