In response to how do you visit friends in flats without lifts..
I would imagine that it is unlikely the friends flat would be suitable for a permanent wheelchair user anyway, narrower doorways, limited space in bathroom to transfer across etc.
I sadly choose not to visit or stay with people that dont have ground floor toilet and step free into house.. I'd love too visit but its just not a feasabel option.
I have seen stair climber chairs that are 'people powered' and they dont look a very comfortabel ride.. beofre becoming ill I taught in a school and some staff had to be trained to evacuate the kids who used wheelchairs as they were not allowed to use the lifts in a fire.
If you can afford oen through floor lifts are amazing, and give you complete independence.0 -
