Refurbished IPhones 5 or 5c or contracts

Hi, looking at the cheapest options of trying to get an IPhone 5 or ideally 5c for my son. Does anyone know where you can purchase refurbished ones. Have called Apple but they do not sell refurbs.
Seems the cheapest option is to buy a handset and then purchase a sim only deal to use in it as he ideally needs unlimited data.
Any advice much appreciated.

If your son is under 18 please don't get him a contract. This forum is full of parents with massive bills. Three do a PAYG bundle with unlimited data for £15 a month. That's what I use.0

Absolutely agree about the "don't get a contract" answer.
If you need to use a contract as a means of financing the phone (you may wish to consider the wisdom of the purchase if you do) then perhaps you could use the contract SIM in your current phone and use PAYG (on the same network) in the iPhone.
My son isn't that fussed about having an expensive phone (possibly because he lost a cheap one some while back !) but is happy with a smart phone on "3"s 3 2 1 PAYG tariff. It is mostly used in places where there is WiFi so the 1p/MB data cost costs a few 10's of pence a month. He has had it since Christmas and I've topped it up less than £10.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I'm not looking for a contract as a means of financing the phone. What I would like to do is get the best deal possible. Happy to buy outright, particularly interested in any good value refurbs which I can then use a PAYG sim in.Jan Grocery challenge

You have these sites :
ipaqrepair.co.uk
refurbiphones.co.uk
smartfonestore.com ( I think this one is really good)
preloved.co.uk
buyrefurbished.co.uk
And these : CEX, Cashconvertors, Cashgenerators
You should definitely check on amazon, ebay and gumtree0 -
Don't completely rule out sim only monthly contracts. My son is on one with Three.
We are able to put a lock on his account, which puts a block on him going over his monthly allowance.
He also is not able to phone premium numbers or premium texts.
As far as I know, Three are the only network to do this, (and they use it as a strong selling point).0 -

Another PAYG with a unlimited data bundle is Lyca mobile. For £12 you get unlimited data unlimited texts 500 mins and unlimited calls within network.0

Tesco also do this0 -
I will probably be a lone voice here, but I wouldn't rule out a contract. My DS has been on a contract since he was 11 (now 15) and has never gone over his allowance. When he first had a contract I would go on to the online account for his phone and check how much he'd used every few days. I only check now and again these days. We made it very clear that if he did go over his allowance we would take the phone off him and there'd be no second chances.
I had a refurbished iPhone 3S from mobiles.co.uk 18 months ago and I love it. They have refurbished 8gb 4S's at the moment which work out at £17.50 for 1gb of data an unlimited minutes and texts or 16gb which works out at £21.38 for 2gb of data and unlimited texts and minutes. There are no 5 or 5C's but They do have them from time to time.
I'm planning on getting a 4S when my contract expires in August. I've been told that I'll notice a big difference but that the difference between a 4S and 5 isn't that big.0
