I'll be traveling to falklands island for a long period of time and was wondering other than getting a contract down there wether there was any cheap mobile tariffs that I can take from the uk with me to give low price calling SMS messaging and if possible internet data so I can keep in contact with my family here in the uk.

Apple offer iMessage entirely free of charge. As long as the distant network gives you data roaming, you'll save a fortune. Only a small part of the island is covered.

Either outgoing or incoming calls will be expensive - outgoing for you; incoming for the caller.

You might hope to use VoIP via internet connections, but even data costs are probably not going to be modest, e.g. £5 for 50 minutes wifi, given the remoteness and connection via either satellite or submarine cable (I don't know which).
