You get what you pay for. If you pay pennies a month it's not gonna be as good as a "proper" network genuinely

You are not wrong there, it may run on O2, but you won't get the same access permit as an O2 subscriber.
I got a lycamobile sim to have a play with 4g, my o2 3g speeds are just the same as lycamobile 4g eg 12-15mbs, my mate put his o2 4g sim in my handset and it was just shy of 60mbs all in the same location.

the data banning (emm not been able to buy a unlimited data goodybag so its effectively a data ban) will start happening in the next month

this targets users who are just plain abusing the unlimited data to the affects the rest of giffgaff and o2 users in general connected to them masts (constantly downloading files so having to keep phone powered to do so) they should be using wifi if you are downloading large files, if you not got home broadband well get one installed or move to three

    ,
the below rule will be interesting how they implement it for the majority, it should not affect them if they are not hammering the data constantly at peak times

15-20% they say is over a total Month not per day, again they are just stating worst case at the moment

per day should be no less than 1-2% of users who will be affected on a per day basis (i do agree 256kbs is not very good if you do end up in that 1-2% group, even things like google maps tiles will load very slow)

just hope they do it sooner then later as my day speed of 0.5mb/s is annoying at the moment (youtube streaming speeds there is no way i watch none HQ youtube its just unwatchable) you need about 0.7mb/s to keep a youtube video from not buffering all the time on HQ

So these users have purchased a product offering unlimited data from a company than claims it doesn't impose a FUP and used a lot data ? Shock !

Sounds more like giffgaff is abusing customers by offering something it can't sustain.

Based on the info posted on the giffgaff community by those comparing o2 sim with giffgaff sim (same place/time) o2 doesn't appear to experience the same slowdown. This appears specific to giffgaff systems and lack of capacity which has also been confirmed by giffgaff as the reason its 4G product is limited to 1GB -

"we can't offer unlimited 4G, not at the moment anyway. We don't have enough capacity to deal with it"

    http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Contribute/4G-Trail-Goodybag-1GB/td-p/12985860/page/9#

The real issue is giffgaff is desperately trying to hang on to the unlimited data headline but just can't provide it. My guess is we will see a system like Virgin Media or Lyca that throttles after a certain amount of in period use otherwise why bang on about 256kbps being a "good download speed" ?

By "hammering" do you mean "using a higher than average share of network resource during peak hours" ?

How is the average calculated ? It might be a low number depending on the number of users .

Does giffgaff have a good track record of implement this kind of stuff ? It's 4G launch is a mess so.......

The only network which gives unlimeted data is 3. if you get good 3 network range where you are then go for it.
Lyca and Sainsbury is good to where i m.

GiffGaff is a waste of money

This comment is just stupid on all levels, how can a user with unlimited data be abusing the service by using data? If they pay for unlimited then they should have unlimited, there is no FUP, so if an unlimited user wanted to use 24/7 data then that's what they have bought.

Giffgaff shouldn't be advertising or selling a product that they can't or won't actually supply.

Giffgaff is becoming a joke, what idiots running that service thought it was a good idea to publicise the fact that unlimited data without a FUP is only available as long as you don't use too much. Pathetic idiots :rotfl:.

Telefonica will be involved somewhere down the line. Especially with giff gaff not making a profit.
